For anyone not familiar, nakiris are primarily intended as vegetable knives, made for straight up and down chopping. For something more general-purpose, you'd want a santoku or gyuto (or a Chinese cleaver).

that edition nakiri is one of the finest fit/finish production line knives I have encountered. and of course it's hard to go wrong with any japanese knives !

This is for those who want a maintenance-free knife since it is a VG10 variant steel. If you don't mind oiling and sharpening your own knife then consider a handmade one from Japan for not much more.

Their exclusive lines (Kaji, Hikari, Fuji) are super nice, I was able to pick up a 7" scalloped utility Kaji for $99 last year during their refurb/clearance sale that seems to happen once or twice a year

Just about to post the same thing. Add a filler for a buck or two, and that's a good deal for a stamped knife. I have their hollow edge santoku that's similar quality, and it's not bad at all.
