I have the original instinct and love it. Is this one a touchscreen? It seems like it's similar to the original but also has analog hands? Trying to understand what this thing is.

No touch screen. It the same as the instinct 2, but with real watch hands.

It also has some upgrades and changes, like a fixed backlight and extra memory etc. You can compare watches on the Garmin website

Are the analog hands always visible? Seems like that would be annoying if it blocks things on the screen.

They're actual, physical hands so yes, they're always on the screen. However, the faces behind the hands change slightly depending on their positioning so they try to minimize any information being blocked.
