On my RG35XX, I installed Garlic OS and downloaded my own library of ROMs as most online sources recommended. There's no rhyme or reason with the included roms, they're a garbled mess of random languages and dumps.

Every review also says to replace the garbage micro SD that comes with the device as well. You can actually create your own micro SD with Garlic OS and your own ROMs before you even get the device. Just plug and play once the unit arrives.

I bought this 2 years ago when this was a clear winner for price to performance, but the retro-handheld space has blown up where that is no longer the case, even at this price. This does not have bluetooth, wifi, or hdmi-out. Anything past ps1 is hit or miss, but found only handheld emulation (gb, gbc, gba) legible on the 3.5 inch screen. This is a clear winner for GBA lovers, since the 3:2 inch screen is a perfect aspect ratio match. If I were to buy a retro-handheld today, I would get the powkiddy X55, which has great community software, hdmi-out, wifi, bluetooth, larger screen, and better performance, for under $100. Both are best when flashing a custom OS to an SD card , and would pass if that's not something that sounds fun to do.

Not to be a killjoy but "No, No you don't!" You're post also reminded me I don't need this. I have two DS Lites in my house capable of running everything this can and more. Loving passed to my two children, but they rarely use them.

I also have a dedicated PC in the living room with retro arch and a plethora of controllers. Something I bet you have or could do with an old PC on hand.

Must resist the nostalgia buy! 😁
You're right. You probably as old as dirt like I am lol. I bought a Gameboy Advance a few weeks ago and literally only turn it on and barely played with it and yet I'm looking for something like this LOL. I buy games that I don't even finish or even played yet as my attention span has dwindled SQUIRREL!

Does Batocera run on this?
Batocera is Linux based using emulation station themes. There are many Linux based Operating systems that run on this handheld device and they can have similar themes.

Basically, not exactly batocera but very similar.

Patreon: Better Gaming. Guy has all the files and all the videos on how to. Pretty quick actually!
I have a 1TB lexar that has 150 games and still lots of room.
Sounds crazy to pay for a hack but time is money and it's cheap.
Please don't use Better Gaming. They just distribute shit AIO packs with their logo slapped on absolutely every piece of homebrew software in the pack. They even have exefs patches that override the switch boot logo to their stupid BG one.

Just use the rentry.org/SwitchHackingIsEasy guide, or use the https://nh-server.github.io guide if you can manage to get the sigpatches set up yourself. Actually, there is even a quick guide for using nh-server guide and setting up sigpatches for Atmosphere here: rentry.org/nhguide-finalize Do these steps after completing the guide.

I prefer the nh guide, since it explains and goes in depth with how stuff works, and provides you with a basic set of homebrew to get started. The default setup is also more sane, providing you access to syscfw by default.

Before using cfw, make sure you also read the ban info here: https://nx.eiphax.tech/ban

Yes! PSvita has been getting a lot of love in the past 3 years. Some Android game ports, massive retro library plus all of the PSvita/PSP catalog, extremely easy to replace parts if anything breaks. JP imported Vita versions go for $80 or so on eBay. Highly recommended!
Might have to look out for one maybe I'll get lucky and find one for around $80. All the ones I found right now are going for $140+

Damn, it's such a disappointment that this device is only good up to PS1

Yes. However, these companies give us no legal way to purchase them. I'd gladly play for roms at a discount, however, we can't. A super nintendo cartridge off of Ebay is ridiculously scalped. I think it's fair to pirate games you can't legally buy.

I'm afraid this isn't powerful enough to run saturn games at an acceptable framerate. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

What is garlic OS?
Is it like Batocera and could I install it on a rock pi5?
Personally I think it is better to go for a portable using the 3588 unless there is yet another rock chip on the horizon
