My choice would be the newer AM5 wtih room to upgrade. Faster gaming chip that doesn't require tons of power.

It was $244. An amazing deal at that price. This price is still a good deal though. Especially for a secondary PC or something that would use 8 SATA ports like an Unraid/NAS server.

This wouldn't be good for a primary PC?

It is just fine for a primary PC for 90% of people. Just saying that for people who already have a top end build, this is a great 2nd build.

It would make a great primary pc. I bought this since I had everything for a computer minus the mobo/cpu/cpu cooler. This was an easy way to future proof my plex server.

It can be depending on your use. Just fixed up an old PC that's over a decade old, has no M.2 slots, but it does 4k streaming with no issues. By the time I'm done, it's going to be over 10TB storage, and that's not even using SATA yet. Sticking M.2 SSDS into every damn hole I see!

Would be nice to see some of these combos with motherboards that have good connectivity on the back.

This is more ideal for someone who has an older system that uses DDR4 and they simply want to do a chip and board swap. If you're building all from the ground that 12700K deal with the DDR5 and better motherboard for 400 bucks is a considerably better value

This is a good deal and I actually went with it. Right now DDR4 memory with its low latency is about as fast as DDR5 so it's a good choice for a budget gaming computer. Add 32gig corsair rgb ram with 18 latency for $60 and a WD SN580X for $60, you have mid-range components at a budget price ($411 after tax). Graphics cards only cost an arm now instead of an arm and a leg, so there's that.

I've thought about your comment and comparison and have concluded it is inherently flawed and reaching a conclusion with flimsy support.

The 12600k is on par performance wise or sometimes a bit better than Ryzen 7600 in games and notably better in multi-threads. That Intel system price can be shaved by $20-$40 just by selecting different RAM. It will run cooler and quieter with a Peerless Assassin cooler than a 7600 will with the AMD stock cooler. Your Ryzen build is using some of the slowest budget DDR5 out there to reduce cost, but you didn't take the same approach with Intel RAM despite 12th gen not being as sensitive to RAM speed as AMD. The full ATX Intel board has more connectivity options than the AMD mATX (important for many use cases). So there are, in fact, many more considerations than your comparison addresses.

Even with the seeming biases in your parts selections, the Intel build you presented would have superior cost-performance ratio. The only real advantage in the AMD system being a bit lower average power use, which might save a dollar or two a year. The potential to upgrade CPU down the road is a benefit on paper that is only really useful to people who upgrade every year or two seeking major performance increases, but that advantage is somewhat hindered by the limitations of the selected budget mATX board.

For a budget all-around build or for specific use-cases like a need for more SATA connections, the Intel build still looks to be a better option than the Ryzen build you present.

Bought this last time for the lower price for wife's build. Running great.

This is more than enough for 90% of people. Only thing a little lacking is usb ports. Unless you have specific gaming or production needs the marginal increase (or greater but then different price bracket) is not worth it for the majority.

Highly recommend especially if it goes back down to the $240s.

Edit- just remembered no wifi or bluetooth so could be a dealbreaker for some
