These are typically used for electrical wiring as they won't pinch the wire the way a staple from a staple gun would.

Normally it runs through the stud in knockouts that have a bushing so it doesn't cut the sheathing

Not really worth sending in the 11% MAIL-IN REBATE for a $0.24 back. Since the stamp cost between $0.45 or more for forever stamp. The 11% is negated.

Yes I have used this type before to run some ethernet under a countertop. Works great, just do not pound in the nails so much they flatten the ethernet. The reason ethernet works at the speeds it does is because of the twist in the pairs, if you flatten the cable you can mess up the twist.
