I have 2022 version of this short and I am super-disappointed with Costco due to quality of Gerry fabric.

I have worn them in house and due to frequent rubbing against sofa (my theory), shorts fabric has been bobbing and developing horizontal tears. Very similar experience with Gerry's long pants made from same/similar fabric.

This is unlike Costco …

I wouldn't buy them again.

EDIT: I cross-checked and compared against 2023 and fabric is same between 2022 and 2023 for consumer like me.

I find the quality to be good. Great for what amounts to ~$6 each. They are extremely light weight which I appreciate for the hot summer months. Very comfortable and breathable. Haven't had a problem with what the other commenter mentioned (piling/tearing/anything).

For 6 bucks each I don't think you can go wrong. But if it does, it's Costco...

I loved the Gerry hiking pants and fleeced line pants. I bought a few pairs of these shorts instore and hated them. Mostly hated the lined belt that goes INTO the waistband. I really didn't like the sewn in belt and wasn't worth my time trying to cut it out.

That being said, I also picked up Hurley and Orvis shorts which were awesome as replacements.

I ordered 5 but will return if not happy. Shorts should have good side pockets, if not it affects my lifestyle to carry my wallet and keys. So no way... But $6 is good too.

And we don't know what happens to the returns. If they end up in the landfill it would be sad along with the added carbon footprint of shipping and returns. Would rather buy quality for the beginning.

No idea what other peoples complaints are. Much less for $5/shorts. These have been great for me. Then again I'm not a typical Costco shopper (fat), so I don't get tears.

It was the opposite for me.. I loved the material on the Hang Ten shorts but the waist was a bit too tight. The Gerry's fit perfectly.
