Opal 2.0 going on two years with zero issues (we only use distilled water). We're cheapskates so it was a difficult purchase at first, but zero regrets.

I just got this a few days ago. So far I like it about $100 more than the recent $80 kitchen-aid bullet style one I returned. Reviews have complaints about whale sounds, but so far it has been great. There is a funnel included to pour in the water and a drain line to easily add and remove water. The ice is no where near as good as Chick-fil-A or Sonic ice, but better than any other ice I encounter at people's homes. This should not be more expensive that this price, but the GE Profile Opal that is the "best" at home version is close to $600 and has some bad reviews too.

Yes. We'll go deep into the bowels of the pelletized ice debate.

I haven't seen a single one without bad reviews. Got the Taotronics one on sale a couple years ago (tried to post it on here, but was overridden by the deal-gestapo), and it has honestly been fantastic. My parents have an Insignia from an old Best Buy DOTD and like it, but IMO the ice from the Taotronics is slightly better.

Are either of those small / nugget ice? I looked and found bullet ice from those brands at an affordable price, and a nugget one from $300-400

Ice that is small, hollow, and melts quickly diluting your drink. Pointless unless you are only using ice for ice water.

Or you like to chew on ice without breaking teeth. It's "sonic ice."

Seems like it has a few crappy qualities.

Like, does it really not feed the melted ice "water" back into the machine like in this video review?

Both are nugget. The Taotronics one was ~275 (almost 300 after tax), but doesn't look like it's available anymore. This is the Insignia - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sku/...Id=6524771. It was a deal of the day at Best Buy not too long ago for (I think) $289.

Based on my experience over the last ~2 years, it actually melts much more slowly than regular ice. I usually end up eating it all anyway, but it tends to last a lot longer than regular ice, at least in my drinks...

hahahahahhahaha

Imagine paying $178 for this ice maker and having to deal with that. lol

I have an Opal 2.0 on my bar counter and it is absolutely wonderful. Plus I don't have to go dump water out every 20 minutes while it's running.
