I bought one of these last year. Seems well solid and well-built. It can run for awhile off a battery pack (mine was 264wh) if you disconnect the glow-plug and do a manual pellet lighting via blow torch. I've cooked at parks and the beach. You can cook anywhere as long as you have a 110v source.

That said, the temperature is all over the place. The unit will think it's overheating when it's barely 250F inside. The top and bottom of the grate will be much hotter than the middle. I have the most success when treating it as a grill instead of a smoker. Set it at max temperature and rotate food around.

There is a sear feature where there's a slider that can be opened to make the middle the hotspot but I've never tried it. Some people reported that fire went up the auger reaching the hopper but I haven't encountered that.

I'd buy it again, even with the limitations.

More than 256 square inches!! Probably a lot more right?

Seems like a good price for a known brand. I could probably work with the small size for my first smoker. Interested to hear other people's thoughts.

Does this need a plug?

More shortcomings and work than you should be doing with a pellet grill. Pass.

I bought this last year. It was great until it had an issue, and the temperature took off uncontrollably during a cook. The grill got so hot the paint flaked off. Called support to see if they could assist, and they said they don't cover the paint but give a discount towards grilling supplies. Take what you will from that.

I bought one of these for our RV last year for about this price, it's well built and efficient. It's not my main or even everyday cooker but this is a decent deal. As an FYI I saw Lowe's sells a battery powered version of this grill the other day. I believe it's $499 though.

I had a similar one that I got from Trager. It had wild swings of temperatures. It would overheat and error often. I had to babysit it and that didn't help so I called Trager. They sent me a new one and it did the exact same thing. Ended up craigslisting both. Shortly after Trager changed the design without recalling them.

I have had that exact model for I think 2 years now. I like it and didn't notice a wild temperature swing. However I live in the south and if I don't use it for a few weeks (3 or 4 is enough I guess) then the pellets left in the auger expands and block the mechanism. I had to take the whole thing apart a couple of times to unclog it. The motor is not powerful enough to unwedge the expanded pellets. I love it otherwise but that's a very annoying issue, not sure I would recommend it.

Wondering how long this grill would last being plugged into a Ryobi 4ah with power inverter? This elaborate setup would be amazing to have for our once every few year camping trips where I buy too much crap and end up forgetting it all at home. I'm joking, but I might actually use this.

I have one of these. I have three use cases, ribs, reverse sear tomahawk steaks, and medium size Papa Murphy's pizzas. The primary benefit of this is that it's easy to use and clean. The hopper is big enough to do a 3-2-1 smoke on a set of Costco pork ribs. I can smoke a tomahawk and sear it using the sear station, and cooking a pizza is the same as putting it in an oven. At this price it's a great entry into pellet smoking.

Not long at all. Even with a 40V Ryobi and definitely not an 18V.

I found one on clearance at Walmart last year for $100 and it's well worth it. I would have definitely paid $150 for it. Cooks burgers and chicken great for me?
