I can answer some of the questions here as I've had the 3800 for a few months and added Dirac. In my room and setup Dirac was a big improvement over my own post-Audyssey tuning. That said, if you have the time, patience, and interest, there are cheaper ways to get most of the way there. I feel the price of the software and mic was worth it.

I came from a 3500 and liked it a lot. This has a better UI, including a 4K OSD and much better HEOS screen. I don't really get the complaints about the look of the volume meter. It's simple and functional and looks better than the one on my 3500.

I run a 5.1.2 setup in a 16 x 20 room with Focal speakers and an SVS sub, and I have more than enough power to make listening uncomfortable.

Wowsers, $1k for a new non-refurbished 3800? That's what I'm talking about. Maybe by Black Friday this year I can afford it... Congrats to everyone who will be getting it now for this price.

As someone who used to run most of those same speakers as mains, I'll just mention that you'll get more bang for your buck with a speaker upgrade than with this AVR.
Agree, I'm running an RTi setup (10s & 6s, CSiA6, FXi3s) and been considering this AVR since it's been going on and off sale the last few weeks and getting the feeling that I'd be looking at speaker upgrades fairly soon running the Denon as a pre/pro.

Thanks for your comment. Which speakers do you have now, and are you happy with them?

In general I agree.
If you are looking improve the sound you hear, look at your speakers before your AVR.

What are some decent options around 1k for a 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 setup?

"It is with much sadness that I cannot recommend the Denon AVR-X3800H."

Any comments from the more savvy members here?
The AKM factory was destroyed in a fire in 2020. The high-end audio chips they made were used in the Denon X3000 series and higher receivers. The fire impacted supply and Denon only uses them on higher end receivers now and a lesser quality audio chip on the lower end receivers (X4800 and below, I believe).

The quality difference is only detectable at the high-end using spectrum analyzers and audiophile ears. Your average consumer won't know the difference. That said, I personally wouldn't have purchased at MSRP, but anything below $1000 is a buy. I'm just a shadetree home theater guy on the internet though, so take my words with a grain of salt.

The only decent that matters is yours, I can't help with that.

I would start by figuring out what is the issue with the Polk's.
Then go listen to what you can and see if you find something you prefer.

If it's more than $1k just start with the LCR's, you can always use the Polk's as surrounds.
Save and buy the rest later.

I have a 4311ci purchased 10+ years back ... with a dead SR channel for the past few weeks.

Would the X3800H be a significant downgrade from a quality, power delivery standpoint?

I also own a 4300 which I use in a separate area, but primarily do HT w/4311ci.
I believe the 4311ci had a 140W output, the X3800H is 105W.

Wondering if I should get this one or a future X4800H (if it ever goes on sale, yikes too costly)?
Assuming Adorama is an authorized Denon dealer, with a full 3-yr warranty.

And finally, how does this X3800H compare with the X4700H ... believe that was a few years older unit?

On paper yes the 4311 will deliver the needed power easier than the 3800.

Does the 3800 have enough power to get you there, depends on many factors like your speakers and your preferred listening level.

This just replaced my 4400 and my LCR are 6ohm/89dB.
For me this had no problem at moderate levels, beyond that it lost steam pretty quickly.
Irrelevant for me since I use my AVR as a pre-pro.

If power is a main concern and you don't use an external amp, the 4700 can be a good option.
There are a few features/options you lose out on but if you don't need them not a problem.
Here is a comparison, should help:

It appears that the code is no longer working, I am getting a "This promotion has expired" message. Anyone else getting the same message?

Assuming this deal comes back I am struggling to decide between the 3800 vs the 4800. I intend to go with a 5.1.4 setup initially as I already have the height speakers installed and don't really have room for rear point surround as my wife doesn't want space between the couch and the wall (I tried its not worth dying on that hill).

The room is 14'6" deep by 18' wide with the Tv and front speakers roughly 13' from the couch. I am hoping the receiver can last 4-6 years in terms of specs and would expect at least 7-10 years in terms of reliability.

Primary Use: Home Theater, movies/shows then sports. Do not game.

Given these parameters is it worth going for the 4800 (or another make and model) and why?
So far the advantages of the 4800 I have found are:
-Different DAC chip
-Made in Japan vs made in China (3800)
-higher watts per channel

based on that I am not sure if it is worth the upgrade.
