This third gen is supposed to be a big improvement. It has a separate sound processor to make Alexa work better. The speaker is also a bit better and it is faster.

I have not used it this is just from a review of the third gen.

My Show 8 works far better than the 5. The new 5 is supposed to work similar to the 8. Not the speakers which are better on the 8.

I tried integrating echo show 5 for smart home automations and the ultrasonic "people detection" is trash and the interface is slow. If the 3rd hasn't improved upon the second's speed, good god stay clear from this. Audio is fine but that touch UI is spammy as it is laggy. Every week they try introducing more junk on the screen for me to fumble through their settings menu to turn off some new BS ad setting

Seems like a really good deal. Has the Alexa ecosystem improved? I have a couple Alexa devices, but they don't seem to be as good as my Google devices.

I thought it was just me-not having my echo show respond as well as my dots...

The 2023 are still laggy or are you talking about the 2nd gen? For $39ea I'm sure they aren't speedy regardless.

[Edit]Customer product reviews also indicate 3rd gen is still slow/laggy. [/edit]

The 2nd gen doesn't like my Eero network. Amazon told me to turn off ipv6. Worked fine on my tplink network so I moved it to another property where it works fine. The symptom was it would not respond to the wake word no matter what.

I see no mention of Eero compatibility with this one. Can this be used as a Eero satellite?

That's what I was afraid of. I'd gladly pay more for a quality device. Instead they build them with prepaid phone guts. smh

I have 2nd generation and works good but sometimes need to reboot it when it's non-responsive. In my opinion 8 is better value and size.

I have the 1st gen echo show 5 and it does not hear me too well. Sometimes I have to yell for it to hear me. Also the menu is pretty much almost useless with how slow it is. Shows I can trade it in for 20, which doesn't seem like a bad deal.

Seeing as how this is one of the lowest-rated Amazon Echo devices, I checked in the comments section. Seems like a lot of people bought this model and changed it for Echo Dots (some went clocks for similar Show 5 alarm capability). At $24-30 per Gen 5 Echo Dot I'd pass on this $40 Show 5.
