Code only seems to work on the barebone version - NOT the 16gb RAM / 512gb SSD version.

If you intend to do transcoding - and you want it to be be hardware transcoding, then no. Intel chips with Quicksync have that covered for Plex due to the coding in Plex.

However, this chip would be fine for some software transcoding depending on the source and client.

If there is no transcoding, then this would work fine - but so would a 15 year old computer.

Are these noisy? Current desktop has a Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz. Worthy replacement?

It would probably feel more snappy and it can do some light gaming in low settings.

It's cheaper too than the deal you posted. I just don't know the brand and quality of it gl!

Hmm I see. I don't think I need transcoding. I basically stream with plex and real debrid.

I havnt had my server up for plex in a while. But I'm sure it works fine as I used hardware accelerated with amd on my gpus. Quicksync is faster but ironically not sure if the current alchemist igpus support it right now as their discreet cards currently don't support it.

Basically it can transcode... either by cpu or gpu.

Grrrr. I paid $240 even for the 5625u version of this with otherwise identical specs. I've really liked it so far. Seems snappier and better for gaming then my laptop with an i7 and Intel xe graphics. But should I try to return it and buy this. Or would the difference be negligible.

Looking at the benchmarks, I'd keep it. The difference is indeed small and hardly worth an extra $20 and a lot of hassle. Bury that FOMO.

Uhh, does your current desktop have a Discrete GPU? If not, then I would say they're similar overall.
