I really like Roku's interface and use these and the 4k sticks all over the house. Using Xfinity (Comcast), I only pay for 1 4k cable box while running Xfinity stream app from these Roku devices. Using a mesh system or dedicated access points you can ensure fast connection speeds that will support 4k streaming from Netflix and others.

I have plex server installed on my NAS and stream to this Roku with the plex app

Roku supports almost every streaming app , just google the app name + Roku

I have two of these, they are both several rooms away from the router and they work fine. You may have received a bad box or you may have a router that doesn't work well with these boxes.

These boxes have 56k ratings on Amazon, and 94% of the people gave it a 4 or 5 star review.

Yes I was talking about the hacked version. It takes multiple accounts (I've curated one for news, one for shows), no ads, UI designed for TV, full control over codecs and resolutions and has Sponsorblock..

It isn't in the app stores, you have to get and push the APK to the device, or download the APK on the device browser. I won't name the app because there's probably some SD rule about that.

If you have multiple HDMI ports on your TV, getting one of these Android devices into one (Fire, Google, ONN or others) just for this app is worth it.

Example--I've got this app running on an old Fire TV box (the one that has the USB and micro ports) so you can watch Youtubes off this app, then videos on VLC off the ports. Roku on another input.

I got this a couple years ago and it works well, still very snappy and quick. In the past it's chewed through remote batteries though, even when turned off; has anyone else ever experienced this with Rokus of any kind?

BTW, Roku has been banning channels that Roku does not want you to watch. Several channels that I was watching have been banned from Roku.

Roku's banning is only going to get worse.

If you need to record OTA tv shows and you subscribe to Amazon prime already, fire stick with the recast. Recast in your attic with a powered antenna and you're set. The downside is fire stick has ads.

On the plus side get a pihole to block most of the ads.

If you don't have prime then I'd probably pick a something else.

I agree, no matter how much I use or don't use one of my rokus, I usually have to replace the remote batteries about every 8 months.
