Save yourself the installation hassle and buy smart plugs. Smart plugs can also be unplugged and moved wherever you need them. Short of having clearance issues where an installed smart outlet might save you some plug-in space, I can't come up with a valid reason to use these.

Also, these outlets are normally ~$20 or so - I've never seen them regularly priced at $29.99. So you're saving a couple bucks. That same $18 will buy you three smart plugs:

Not everyone wants 100500 huge adapters in their power sockets, but I agree that the price is a bit too high.

Bought these when they were $35+ Kasa has been coming down quite a bit so considered cheap from my viewpoint. And yes, not everyone wants unsightly plugs all around the house. But to each their own.

Understood, I use the majority of the smart plugs I own for seasonal holiday lighting, and they sit in a drawer for the other 50 weeks of the year. I have only recently started integrating the plugs in to everyday smart home routines (2 table lamps and a floor lamp in the LR turn on when I turn on downstairs hallway lighting from upstairs in the AM) - all of them are pretty out of the way between pieces of furniture. They are fairly innocuous looking IMO, especially in a world of "wall wart" plugs and plug in phone chargers. They also have a nice large accessible on/off override switch as compared to the small buttons on these in-wall outlets, which look to be a bit difficult to access, especially with both outlets occupied.

I guess this is useful for a small subset of people who don't want the clutter and know they exactly where they want a smart outlet

Nice. Checking those out, I found what appears to be a newer/slightly more compact version @ $6 each currently (2pk): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091FXQQMQ

one problem the on/off switch is useless as it will be blocked by the plug. other than that it is a good deal

I put these outside to make my landscape lights and seasonal lights smart. They are in outdoor containers with a lid. They've worked great for a year so far. Much cleaner than getting a bunch of outdoor plugs that stick out

This plug will work perfect on my outdoor outlet on my deck. I use the huge outdoor block but I hate how it hangs out of the outlet

Energy monitoring is a specific model of each device, not necessarily built into all devices.

You can pick any color you want, as long as it is white.

After having ½ of one of these go bad, I would agree. At least when they go bad, the power stays on constantly.

I have to agree with others as to the unsightliness of the stand-a-lone smart plugs.

I use one of these in my kitchen for my coffee maker specifically. I get my coffee maker ready before bed and when I wake up I say "Alexa, turn on the coffee maker". It's been flawless for over a year now.

I just hated the look of the bulky smart plug coming off the outlet in my kitchen.

But, I agree with you on pricing. I paid 19.99 over a year ago. That seems to be the normal going price.
