G402, while a decent mouse, has a very poor quality mouse wheel. I've owned one in the past, and the mouse wheel button ended up breaking. The mouse is discontinued, so when I applied for a warranty replacement, Logitech gave me a G502, which while still having poor build quality, is leaps and bounds ahead of the G402.
Given the chance, I'd pick the 502 over 402 every time.
I'm not sure if most people even use over 1000dpi in gaming. This has always seemed like a gimmick to me to sell newer mice, since they can last for a long time.
