Stop spreading misinformation on the Samsung 980 drives. The firmware issues has been fixed and there are zero widespread reports of issues following said fix.
For the Linux people, you can't update WD drives through Linux. They don't provide the firmware files and you can only update through the Windows Only WD dashboard. Samsung at least provides the firmware files for use with Linux tools.

This goes for anyone using them for unRAID, TrueNas, Proxmox, VMware, or direct Linux flavors such as Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, etc.

That being said, I much prefer the WD stuff, especially these sn850x drives.
Was waiting for 200, but this is good enough, time to redownload all my ps5 games!

As a big Samsung fan boi I decided to try WD after reading a bunch of positive reviews, ended up with the 1Tb version of this and it works great.

I personally went with a cheaper 4TB from Crucial for my PS5 and I don't notice any difference from my old 1TB SN850X, just in case you wanna save the ~$55

2TB version is what I have. Speeds aren't quite as rated, about 250-500MB/s shy on the r/w. Haven't had any IOPS slowdowns or hangs, but it just lacks that general snappiness. Between my 5 yo Samsung 950 EVO PRO and this, I couldn't tell a difference. Where are the gains? The 3000MB/s file transfers?

Got this and a 2tb from WD recently after 2 Samsung 980 Pros started crashing the PC. *That's why the Samsung drives are so cheap now - failing even with firmware updates.

Spend a few more $ on WD. This is also faster.

Your mobo may already have a heatsink. My MSI pro Z690 has one on it.

I'm going to hold out for Black Friday but this shows me I might be able to hope for $175 or even $150 there.

How do you get a 12% cashback
Do you have to pay with a bank account or can use a credit card to get the discount?
