Modern routers allow you to setup an isolated guest Wifi network. I connect all my IoT devices to the guest network so they can't snoop on my other connected devices.

The sensors themselves do not use wifi, they use some low-power low-frequency wireless tech. They use that method to communicate with the plug-in base station, and the base station connects to your wifi network.

I love these Govee leak detectors, they have saved me way more times than they should.

The B5054002 is the older model of these sensors. This is the version I own. They work great, but you need to have hub B07QP153GT if you want notifications on your phone. I see that some of the 3 packs contain this hub. This version is not smart home compatible right out of the box.

The H5043+H5058 are the newer version. I believe one of those model numbers is for the new hub and new style of detector. This one appears to be smart home compatible right out of the box.

I have this and thought it was great. It does EXACTLY what it was supposed to do but here's the farking bummer. I went to bed upstairs at 10:30PM, the alarm went off cause there was water coming into the basement. Push notification to my phone and email! farking awesome! Unfortunately, I didn't hear it or see it cause I was sleeping. Woke up at 5AM, walked down the hall, heard it and booked downstairs. Thankfully wasn't bad but I'm not sure what else I could have done. It's a solid product but if it's far, you won't hear it.

I've had these for well over a year (bought in Nov 2021) and the batteries haven't had that issue yet. When they do, I'll replace with Eneloops and I'm guessing they'll last longer than these have so far. I've had a couple of false positives (one each because of condensation/humidity from the washer and dishwasher, but they are worth every penny!

I've been researching water sensor options all week, after spending several days cleaning up a mess in my basement from the HVAC drain pipe clogging up. Seems like there are no perfect options. The "Moen Flo Smart Water Leak Detector" (https://www.amazon.com/Moen-920-0...08559ZTDK/) gets the most recommendations from professional reviewers, including Wirecutter (NY Times), but has it's own set of issues and shortcomings. D-Link (https://www.amazon.com/D-Link-Sta...093CPQRJX/) also gets a recommendation from Wirecutter and that's 50% off now too (Prime Day deal), but that too has it's shortcomings.

The $30 Govee 3-pack with the gateway and 3 sensors seems to be the best budget option right now, and with 8K+ reviews there should be no surprises.

The $54 4-pack with the gateway and 4 long-range (LoRa) sensors is a completely new product. I think it just showed up on Amazon this week. It's not even on Govee's website yet and there are no reviews. Most folks won't need the long-range (they're claiming 1/4 mile) but I like how it integrates with Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTT.

Tough call between rolling the dice on a new, unproven product, or buying the older tried & true product.

UPDATE: The newer LoRa product is no longer available.
