These are probably my favorite smart plugs I've tried. Super easy to set up and no special hub required. Great price.

I tried the bulbs but they seemed too dim for a room. Am I doing something wrong?

Most of my Kasa switches, which are not too far from the router, have been working flawlessly. However, one of my two outdoor two port switches doesn't seem to be able to hold a consistent connection even when it is just one room over. For all of my Kasa switches I would say they work about a medium distance from your router. If you get too far, the connection will be spotty. In areas using three different brands of cell phones I connected (but barely) without problems and am able to stream YouTube. I've had Kasa switches that lose their connection completely at the same distances. The one mini switch I have at a distance works well, even at the furthest distance. I have a few other mini switches that I have not tested, but I suspect they would work pretty well at nominal distances. I would avoid the outdoor two port because it has been finicky for me. One nice thing is the homeassistant integration works really well. I'm able to easily add my switches. If they are connected to Wi-Fi, homeassistant can control them. This is a good deal if you are already committed to Wi-Fi or you need a few extra switches for Christmas. However, I have had better luck with z-wave which operates as a mesh network. Even my weak battery operated remotes at the far ends of my house work without any issue at all.

Any experience with the doorbell cam..? I'm curious how people like it. I have a few Kasa plugs and bulbs. The plugs work well, the bulbs are hit or miss if they'll stay connected to the network.

Edit: Saw the first big Amazon review and I'm turned off, nevermind. I don't want mandatory cloud or having to take the microSD card out to clear old footage. Any recommendations for a better local/network storage doorbell cam alternative would be awesome.

I have had the Kasa Doorbell now for several months (using with a MicroSD card), and I absolutely love it. They have fixed the problem that you read about in the review (read newer reviews). I don't have to take out the MicroSD card to clear space for new recordings, and I can save recordings to my phone through the app.

It does a great job with notifications, which are separated by Motion, Person, and Doorbell Press notifications (you choose which ones you want to be notified of on your phone, and they're differentiated by different colors in the recordings).

We set up an older Amazon Echo Show to announce when a person is detected or the doorbell is pressed. I believe newer Echo Shows can display the doorbell cam video, but mine cannot, as it's an older model.

The primary thing I don't like is that the chime can't be hooked up to my existing house doorbell chime, only the included one that requires plugging into an outlet somewhere. Not a big deal, though.

Definitely! I still use two Kasa Smart plugs and three Kasa Smart bulbs that I acquired through such deals. Very intuitive to use, and they work great! I prefer the Kasa plugs to the Amazon ones.

If I recall, they were around $1-$5 each if ordered through an Alexa device on special promos, but I haven't seen those deals in a while.

I saw this and I said, nice. Finally a doorbell and/or outdoor camera without cloud storage.... then I found that it's a Chinese owned company. Does anyone know if TP-Link (aka Kasa) have been caught sending data back to their server without permission or bad security? With multiple Chinese owned company being caught sending data to their server either without permission or "signed consent" (I agree) or have backdoors or completely unsecure communications (i.e. clear text passwords) --- (TENCENT, eufy aka Anker, Blu Phones, Lexmark, Lenovo, Tiktok, Dahua, Hikvision, etc.).

I had trouble with an outdoor plug too, but moving one of my mesh points to a nearby window fixed it.

I have the doorbell camera and plug in outdoor camera specifically because they have local storage. The only complaint I have with the doorbell camera is the motion sense can trigger with cars passing by at night. The light makes it think there is motion. If I limit the range to just the front door area though it's pretty good.

The reviews are a mixed bag in part because the description is weird and seems to imply that you need cloud storage. You don't. You can record everything locally on an SD card and record clips on your phone from the footage. Cloud is needed if you don't want to use the 24/7 recording feature and instead want the camera to automatically record motion clips only but I don't see the point when an SD card can record over a weeks worth of video and you can go back and record before and after the motion alert if you want. The camera saves all the alert times and all you have to do is tap on it to automatically go back and see the footage from that point. I also have no idea what that one guy is talking about but I've been recording 24/7 for months now without having to remove the SD card to clear the old footage. I almost backed out from his review but then I realized that if it was true and not just a one off defect or something, pretty much every review would be complaining about it. No one would keep a camera they have to remove and manually wipe every week.

I actually like it more than my old Eufy cam and it's a third the price.

Does it auto delete when the SD card is full or do you have to manually delete things to maintain its recording capabilities?

Great device. No idea what I paid back in the day, but it has sat outside for at least 3 years in extreme heat, rain, and freezing temps, and still works.

It auto-deletes the oldest to make room for new recordings. I haven't needed to remove the MicroSD card to make more space when it was full.

It just loop records over the old stuff like any other surveillance camera recording system. I've been recording 24/7 for months now without the need to manually delete anything. I have no idea what happened with that one reviewer but there is no way anyone would make a camera that you have to manually delete files every day to keep it going.

I haven't seen anything on it yet. Took a chance on it awhile back because I'm already in Kasa's ecosystem and their stuff is reasonably priced. Hopefully they're not caught doing anything nefarious but who knows. I wanted local storage with no subscription and that limits you to Eufy and Kasa I think and Eufy's 'we don't care and will do it again' response to getting caught turned me off them for good. There are plenty of American options but I think they all require subscriptions and as American companies, they're more inclined to play nice with American authorities which concerns me on a personal level more than the Chinese government.
