Dunno why people still buy this style, the side cutters are better in nearly every way, e.g.:

I'm sure this is a decent can opener, but you can still find made in USA ones.

Thoughtful and informative recommendations like this are a big part of why I appreciate this Slick community so much! Thanks OP for the great listing and thanks @Rezer for an awesome follow up alternative recommendation! Much appreciated on both parts! Smilie

I have something similar. My only issue is that the tuna cans can take a few more goes at times. It's to the point that I will have to locate the cut point and peel the top back. I don't get because it's only the tuna cans that does this.

I agree that they are better....for the first few weeks. I've bought at least 2 or 3 and they always seem to break after a while. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. We bought this one and never looked back.

they don't work for very large cans, the more basic one never have problems.

also there is something gross looking about seeing the can liner all stringy every time you use the side cutters. I'd rather leave that not cut and not have any risk of it getting into the food.

Yeah. Just don't throw it in the dishwasher like they do these. It only takes seconds to wash and dry by hand and they shouldn't rust.

I have had this Kitchen Aid opener, and it's not the best.

America's Test Kitchen recommends this one:

I've bought this one, used it for years, and it's great. It does cost a bit more, but I would pay it if you really want a nicer one.

Seems like most can openers would rust easily with all those nooks & crevices for moisture to reside. Maybe using a hair dryer to immediately dry it after washing would prevent this?
