Personally, I'm just a weather nerd and like to know the weather at my exact location, and look at past data on Wunderground. But, there are many very helpful uses for it, such as integration with an irrigation system, HVAC system/thermostat, among others.

Is this thing really necessary or is it just so you can be cool and show your friends? What's wrong with a weather app of your local town/city?

i have the wittboy: https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-E...B09TZZTYPK

Working great, wanted it over the 2902 because it doesn't have any moving parts. I primarily got it because the weather stations around me are pretty far so online weather is always off. Also bought the addon Air quality monitor.

Solar panels on them are great, fully charge them back to full even on cloudy days

I integrate them into Home Assistant so opted out of any display
Was it a seamless integration into HA or did you have to have any middle man self hosted software, etc?

There's a built-in ecowitt integration in HA but I went with ecowitt2mqtt because it provides some additional entities that might be useful

That one requires a middle man server, right?

Frankly if you have to ask, you aren't interested enough in your *localized* instantaneous weather, which can vary significantly even by blocks and is dynamically updated (e.g. rain rates, wind speed/direction etc.). Things get particularly interesting when big storms hit.

Thank you, your link just saved me $150 - there is an existing station a block away from me, so now I can look at its fancy graphs for free!

Very cool setup on the skycam, any instructions on how to set up something similar? I've been missing my Bloomsky since their servers went kaput.
There are some details here:
https://tetrion.com/skycam/about.php

But I have made some updates since then... but the above should still be useful... although you probably don't want something that complex. I would hope there is a simpler solution but what I have works well for me so I don't plan on changing it at this time. Big Grin

If you don't take joy in having and running your own weather station then it's not for you.

I can not decide which one to pick.

I have been looking at this one, the WS-2000, or even the AruRite Iris 5 in 1.

I have looked at others too, but the closest would be one of the Logia models.

There is just too many good sounding options.

Nope both methods to integrate ecowitt into HA are local. You have to use the ecowitt app to set it up, add the HA IP address, but from there it's all local

https://www.home-assistant.io/int...s/ecowitt/

"The Ecowitt integration was introduced in Home Assistant 2022.9, and it's used by 1704 active installations. Its IoT class is Local Push."

Excellent. Thanks. I was looking at https://github.com/bachya/ecowitt2mqtt and saw that it required a web server. Not that it's a bad thing, just another moving piece to maintain.

That's what I use, you have to install that on a server, which I assume will be the same as your home assistant. It uses mqtt so you will have to have that running on the machine also. It's all still local

Thanks; that actually doesn't look too horribly to set up! I have a beautiful west-facing backyard on the side of a hill that gets absolutely gorgeous sunsets most of the year, and have been looking for a good way to get back into watching the summary nightly. The day-long recaps the Bloomsky used to put together were so cool, and I bet it wouldn't be that bad to add to your script to convert to a .avi or .gif or something in ImageMagick nightly. I bet with you living in TX there would be some rad timelapses of huge thunderstorms rolling in. We don't get those where I am, but the daily in/out flow of the marine layer can be so beautiful.

Also, love the stream of consciousness flow on the website. Smilie
