been looking for a high yield online bank this year
looked into Synchrony Bank earlier in the year
long story short, they are sketchy, glad i didnt pull the trigger
so with that experience, i looked into ally and now sofi
I just read the terms but still am confused. To get the maximum $250 cash rebate, I have to do a monthly direct deposit of $5k, or deposit/transfer $5k a month indefinitely. Am I getting this right?
It will start counting when your first direct deposit hits your Sofi account. You do not need to time the date.
So correct me if I'm wrong, but does this mean if you're someone who gets paid monthly, there's no chance to get the 250 (since that will be >25 days)?
If your monthly paycheck is $5,000 or more, you are still eligible for the $250 bonus.

$1,000 - $4,999 Total Qualifying Direct Deposit: $50 Cash Bonus $5,000 or more Total Qualifying Direct Deposit: $250 Cash Bonus

Ah ok, I misunderstood. I thought it meant that after your first DD, you would need another of at least $5k within 25 days. Thanks!
This "borders" on false advertising.
I signed up for this deal and regret it.
The 4.5% rate comes with huge amount of conditions and restrictions, the least of which is direct deposit. There are countless other banks that offer the same rate or better for savings without any such conditions/restrictions: UFB, wealthfront, etc...
If you're looking for an online bank, then maybe sofi is for you but if you're looking for rates, stay away from them.

Seriously did you learn to read after you opened the account?

I don't know what you talking about. I have direct deposit of $100 and eligible for 4.5% interest in Saving. I only put $100 in Checking and rest of money in Saving.
I don't see where I can view the terms of the account itself. Like how do you avoid a monthly maintenance fee? Is their a minimum balance that I need to maintain? Also, once I get the bonus money, how long do I need to keep the account open before closing it?
