Nobody cares what spend you put on the card, there's nothing legal to be concerned about there.
The only reason business cards include any disclaimers about it at all is because business cards don't have as wide a range of consumer protections on them.
IIRC if you have a SW CC you can buy gift cards with the points but the value of doing that is so garbage it'd be a massive waste of spend you could use for other, far more valuable, new card bonuses.

Thanks for the quick response. I decided to wait for this one.
You guys happened to know the best one out there now for 15k expense? I'd rather prefer reward bonus/ cash back... potentially 12mos no interest. The one I m looking is Chase ink business unlimited with 750 reward/ 8k spend/ 0% apr for 12 mos...

Ink Cash and Ink Unlimited both currently have 75k UR ($750 as cash, can be considerably more used for travel) for $6000 spend each so with 15k spend you could do BOTH of those, plus another 3-4k signup for another ~50-75k points/dollars elsewhere.
Hence one of the reasons I say this deal isn't worth it unless one plans to do a LOT of travel on SW with exactly 2 people.

However, with 3k spend I'll get the 60k bonus. Stop using this card before hitting 15k spend and use my personal SW card moving forward. Hit CP by EOY.
Then, I will still be in the first 9 month period for the second bonus, use this card at the beginning of next year, hit that 15k total spend and I'll start the year with 60k points toward companion.
Totally understand people wanting to hit CP earlier in the year, but I think this one works pretty well for me to secure next year for the full year and be in a good place to secure it again for the following year.
I should also note that I fly SWA multiple times a month and my partner joins me on many of these trips as we're both remote.
The spend isnt hard to hit, issue is more that its only a 1 year and a few month companion pass.
Rather wait and do the 60-70k deals in oct/november that always pop up, been doing this for years and havent paid for one flight for the family since 2011 as well as without dealing with the 5 card rule at chase:
Year 1 - spouse 1 applies for cards in Q4 deal, intentionally don't hit spend until January year 2. Companion pass now through end of year 3. Close cards in feb after bonus transfer.
Year 3 - spouse 2 applies for cards in Q4 deal, intentionally don't hit spend until January year 4, companion pass now through year 5.
year 5 - spouse 1 repeats in nov. and the sequence repeats.
This enables both people to not hit the 5 card flag as well as always have 1 active companion pass
Hey! Thanks for the write up! Was wondering if I could get a few clarifications, and I apologize if these are dumb questions:
1) you mention not hitting spend until January year 2. However, then you only have 60k-70k points. I assume you spend to get the remaining 65-75k? Or are you implying the same spouse apply for multiple cards?
2) "close card in feb after bonus transfer". Is this February year 2 or year 3? I assume year 3, but just clarifying.
3) I assume spouse 2 cannot cancel cards until nov year 5 once spouse 1 has applied again, and thus able to transfer bonus?
4) has this had any sizable impact on credit? I'm not overly concerned as wife and I both have phenomenal credit with no major purchases on the horizon, just curious.
Thanks so much for your time and insight!

The other thing no one discusses is how flexible these points are. Even if you don't fly that much, there is a lot of value in being able to book flights at no cost to you (except $5.60 FAA fee) and that are fully refundable if you cancel. I have a good amount of SWA points and I book quite a few flights several months in advance. Because they are booked in advance, these flights are generally cheaper to book. Then, as the date approaches, I decide whether I really want to go and book the hotel, car, etc. So, these points allow you to 'park' trips at lower costs rates -- with no consequence. Historically, that has been one of the great values to me of SWA points (more so than other airlines). Having the flight booked also, as a practical matter, encourages me to go on more trips. By the time the flight is approaching, I'm thinking 'Yeah, let's go..we got the flight booked already anyway'. That's my two cents. Since the recent rules changes on July 1, please know that if you book a flight with points, you will need to actually cancel it at least 10 or 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time to get your points back into your account and your $5.60 back. That is not a big deal for me. And, if you have alerts from the App activated on your phone, you always get reminded of these upcoming trips anyway (even if initially you forgot about it). Southwest's flexibility is the main reason it is my favorite airline.

Are there any other airline programs similarly useful and flexible? haven't been keeping up with all programs..

American lets you change or cancel for free too
Delta lets you cancel award tickets originating in North America for free for everything but basic economy
Jetblue lets you cancel for free as long as it's not day-of-flight and not basic economy.
United has no change fees for domestic flights (or international ones originating in the US) and no cancellation fees if it's 30 days out or more (close in cancellation fee may apply depending on status)
I think there would be a legal problem if you tried to 'deduct' personal expenses from your business income, but that is a separate issue entirely.
Also, FYI, if I recall correctly, with the business cards the Credit Card company has both of you on the hook for the bill......both the individual named on the card AND the business. Because of that, I'm not sure why the credit card company would care about the nature of the charges.

How do you get from the 60/70k points to the companion pass? Through purchases?

Also, this should be considered if you already have a lot of points this year, and the first 60,000 point bonus will get you over the top for the Companion Pass.
