Wrong tool for bamboo, you would be better off with a sawzall.

I've had pretty easy job on 1-1.5" thickness bamboo with M18 fuel one hand sawzall and carbide tipped blades. It also lets cut very close to the ground but unless some kind of weed killer is used in the inside of the hole left it grows back pretty quickly.
