Have had this monitor almost 2 years...... one stuck pixel I never notice, but I LOVE the monitor. Best one I've ever owned. So bright, colorful and good contrast. Paid $799, so this is a great deal!

Amazon reviews and Q&A say that they're identical except for brighter hdr, slightly better color, and possibly different panel.

Rtings says they're identical but the 850 has slightly better response time at its highest refresh rate and brighter hdr.

Personally, I don't think it's worth the higher price. Especially if it's not even HDR1000.

Can anyone share why this is worth spending more than 2x the price compared to this Monoprice monitor? Is it the IPS vs. VA diff?

Had this monitor for a little while and then, about 3 months ago, we moved and my stepdad (who was helping) dropped it while bringing it into the new house. Feels bad, man.

Fantastic display though. Always thought it performed really well. Weird sidebar: When I got mine, it had something loose inside. Never did figure out what it was, but I gambled and kept it and didn't RMA it. Worked perfectly.

I would say that LG has a better reputation than Monoprice when it comes to QA. Beyond that, many people, including myself. prefer IPS over VA. IPS doesn't have the smearing problems that VA panels have. Also IPS look better from a variety of viewing angle, which is important with a monitor this big. However some people don't mind VA panels for gaming.

According to this reviewer, basically no.

Mainly yes. I don't think you can find any curved IPS 34 UW at this price point at the moment (and there aren't that many out there to begin with). IPS monitors are generally and always has been more expensive than the VA monitors.

I bought this exact same monitor from Amazon in December 2020 for $800, and I love it. Bright picture, no dead pixels (on mine), and an intuitive UI. Of course being an IPS panel, it will have a tiny bit of light bleed and won't have the inky blacks of an OLED, but the cheapest OLED at this size and with anything near these specs is the Alienware 3423DWF at $900, and that's assuming you can find it at that price.

Don't bother with VA, as someone who's owned VA, TN, IPS, and OLED for gaming hands down go with IPS. Obviously I'd recommend OLED but the step up in price is drastic. I just replaced my Asus TUF 34" VA Ultrawide monitor with the Alienware 34" OLED and it's such a massive picture quality difference.. unbelievable and worth every penny.

Not worth it. I have the monoprice and am considering getting this. VA smears blacks and it's super distracting. For browsing, white text on black background like YouTube dark mode is unreadable while scrolling. Monoprice is fine if you're on a budget, but I wish I knew what I was getting myself into with VA

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I'm at a point in life where I definitely believe "you get what you pay for". After hearing this and the other above comments, I will purchase this over the monoprice monitor.

The Monoprice Dark Matter is a very mediocre monitor with poor response time and poor picture quality, at least compared to LG's fast nano IPS panel anyway. Nevermind the fact that Monoprice has far more quality control issues compared to LG. I've had multiple LG tvs and monitors and they've always been flawless in my experience. Also I believe this monitor has a 4-5ms gtg response time compared to 1ms with the LG. I'm thinking of grabbing this LG monitor myself if it's still on sale. $550 is an awesome price for this panel.

If you want a cheaper ultrawide and don't mind a VA panel then I would go with this Dell 34" ultrawide Model# S3422DWG - https://a.co/d/f7yE2jL, which is marked down to $350 from $500 and has Amazon's monthly payments available, which is just 5 payments of $70 with no interest and you can use your regular debit card, you don't need an Amazon card for it. The Dell will be much better than the Monoprice and I believe it has a 1-2ms response time vs 5ms with the Monoprice, and it also has a fully adjustable stand with height, tilt and swivel (whereas the Monoprice only has tilt), plus it comes with a better 3yr warranty, while the Monoprice only has a 1yr warranty, which kinda sucks imo.
