If you tip a fridge or freezer on it's side to transport, be sure to set it upright for minimum 24 hrs before plugging in.

Can confirm it's not garage ready, I bought one weeks ago, the drawers are great.
What is garage ready? Sorry if that's a silly question.

Closest thing I could find is a 7 cu.ft. Insignia for $300. No drawers.

I believe garage ready is more valid for units with a fridge and freezer in one.
Garage ready units have a built in heater to heat up the refrigerator section in the winter... because otherwise your food in the fridge section will freeze in extreme cold, which you don't want.
Some refrigerator companies sell external garage ready conversions for their fridge if they are not already from the factory.

So in short I think being garage ready is not as important for freezer only units.

I saw it at Costco today and was excited at first, but it really doesn't seem to fit 11sqft.. the plastic containers seem to have too much gaps and won't fit that much.
We replaced a 15-year-old, 7.9 cuft chest freezer with this and the food transferred over basically one to one. The ability to actually get to everything and know what we have has been well worth it.

Yes, only 11 cubic feet makes it like half size. Plus manual defrost, gross...

I had to look it up. Of course this came off a manufacturers website. It said in extreme cold the freezer would be tricked into not turning on. I doubt that is really much of a problem since if it is that cold nothing inside is going to thaw out anyway. It also stated it could shorten the life of the unit if it is real hot because it is having to work hard to keep things frozen.

I've got a freezer and a side-by-side in my garage and over the last 2 years we have seen temps close to 0 in the winter and 110 in the summer. The freezer is probably 10 years old and I've never had an issue. The side-by-side is probably 20+ years old and no issues really. i will say on the side-by-side I did have an issue with the freezer thawing in the winter. After some research I found out the freezers temp is actually based on the temp of the of the refrigerator side. Once I turned the temp down more in the fridge the freezer side was fine.

My wife really wants this freezer but I feel like a glutton knowing that would make us having 4 freezers and all of them are full.
Garage ready for a freezer generally means tested to operate from 0 to 110 F. Garage ready for a fridge generally means there is a heating coil around the thermostat so that cold (sub 34F) garage air doesn't trick the fridge into thinking it's cold enough inside preventing the compressor from running.

For 11 cu ft, seems like the price should be around $200 and on sale for $150-$175.

This price is ridiculous. Maybe for double+ the volume, but not this size. I got in on that 30 cu ft chest freezer from Costco for $350. Granted, that was a great deal. This one, however, seems like a really inflated price.

Can you give us a link for another UPRIGHT FREEZER of the same size for a less ridiculous price? Thanks in advance.

I hate to get rid of my perfectly fine GE chest freezer, but I also feel like an upright will be easier to see what is in the back. Right now, I have no clue what is in the depths of the chest freezer.

True, more applicable to fridge/freezer...but the heater heats the air around the thermostat, not within the fridge. The intention is so that the fridge continues to cool despite ambient air colder than the fridge setpoint.

For freezers it generally means the unit was tested to operate from 0 - 110 F.

I'm just here for the arguments about chest freezers vs. upright.

Yes you are right.
But that leaves me thinking; how does the fridge prevent food from freezing over in extreme cold?

Dry erase marker right on the freezer works pretty well.

I'd bet that also applies to non-temperature controlled garages. My garage is attached to the house and has hvac in it. It's not going to be extremely cold or hot like a detached garage may be.
