For me, ASUS has been the most reliable mesh system compared to linksys and netgear.
Yeah, not very happy with my Orbi setup. Running 4 satellites so coverage is great, just the router at times drops the internet. Using ATT fiber so same issue as others having to use their gateway/router garbage, probably a double nat issue.

You want the et12 if you are looking for multi-gig.
Orbi isn't great, was awesome when first came out on wifi 5 back in the day...but true mesh like the et12 will run circles around it
I have an old RTN66U; one thing that drives me nuts about it is that it seems to randomly give out itself as the DNS server sometimes; this messes up pi-hole logging, since now blocks are logged as the router instead of the device trying the lookup. Does anyone know if these do the same thing? If I was considering this vs t. If I was consindering this vs. something like X68, would anyone have any input? I am not concerned about extreme speeds for any given device, just decent speeds with good coverage.
Do they sell them individually or in a 3-pack? Could use 3 to cover the house but I don't really want to buy two 2-packs and have to resell one.
If you end up getting the extra one and having to resell I'll be more than happy to take it off your hands. Have two nodes atm and need one more for outdoor coverage

I went with the XT9s instead. 6E lures you to the ET8 but if you gonna utilize a wireless backhual you might be disappointed. I can tell you the XT9s have been rock stable (none of the issues cited with prior models which IMO are due to user ignorance anyway) and I get up to 80 to 90 percent of my LAN cable speeds.
ASUS also doesn't try to ass rape you like Netgear does with fees for extra services and even warranty claims and support

I bought a pair a couple of years ago and had nothing but trouble with the units staying connected and my house was under 2000 sqft. Asus support was less than useless. The only troubleshooting step they know is to factory reset the units. If you encounter a similar issue, don't count on Asus to fix it with a future firmware update. I ended up selling them at a loss.
One more thing, AP isolation cannot be removed for the guest network despite the option listed in the configuration. This means devices connected to the guest network, cannot see each other. I used to put my old wireless printer on the guest network because it doesn't get security updates and I did not want it in my main network. I can't do that anymore.

Agreed the XT9 has been relatively solid for me on the more recent firmware updates. The second 5GHz network it offers is more important for a good wireless backhaul connection since it has more range than the 6GHz band.
The 18% 1 Star reviews on Amazon killed this deal for me. I have had the XT8's on my Saved items for quite awhile but never caught them on sale. Now I see the XT9's so will be adding those to my list as well.
I've had my eye on this series of routers for a while, but keep hesitating to pull the trigger due to some issues brought up in the reviews. It just doesn't seem like a reliable system.
I bought a XT-8 recently and it was a configuration nightmare. I had connection drops randomly on devices on the mesh node. It was blazing fast when connected but lacked reliability which is why I had to return it after wasting hours.
I even tempt one of the 5G bands separate and unused and it would still switch to the 2.4G band for the back haul even though the node was less than 15ft from the base node
So far they only allow you to select the priority for the backhaul instead of awaking it fixed. This is a problem for mesh systems where the backhaul needs to be a dedicated band.
After googling a bit I even tried to manually downgrade the firmware as suggested. That bricked both units and I could only reset one of them.
I'm trying TP Link now to see how that does. I really loved ASUS before this as the previous router lasted me more than half a decade and is still working but I feel they're weak in the Mesh game.

For starters the Eero 6E Pro is kind of dog , besides the google 6E its the 2nd worst on the market implmentation of 6E, so just about anything will be better than it including the EERO 6 Pro, lol.
Now this is an extra $120 but your speeds will definetly increase to probably well over 500Mbps to just about every device in your home if you set it up properly.
If you want to save some money and can put the router in the middle of the 2nd floor, just go with a single Asus AXE7800 when its on sale for $250 which it has been multiple times. Or even get the AX86U when on sale for $200 and you will be happier with either or. The AXE7800 as I mentioned in the comments above is superior to all of them currently by a good amount so its worth the $250 by itself. The AXE7800 and the AX86U can actually max out your 1Gbps line to a proper client over wireless.
Where are you getting your information about performance?

Currently $390 at MicroCenter
Et12 is the way to go, this is a hard pass. Wireless backhaul defeats purpose and limits speeds....
