That's odd, Saucony is pretty popular in the running communities.

How is this shoe for rugged but lightweight/breathable hiking/camping?
I have used this shoe for years. While this is not a truly heavy duty shoe like the Saucony Peregrine, which has better grip but is also WAY more $$ than the Excursion, it has a good combination of price, comfort, and durability.

I have used this for many different hikes in Arizona, ranging from soft dirt to hard and rocky, including the Grand Canyon many times (rim to river 4 times and rim to rim twice, along with some other random hikes below the rim).

I have always been happy enough with this shoe to continue to purchase it when it is on sale. Having said that, the Excursion 15 has been the most disappointing version I have had (I go back I think to version 8) doe to the insole seeming thinner and also loose as it slides to the back and upward on downhill hiking, which has not happened on other version but happened on both pairs of version 15 that I have had.

They make the sole grippy and wide and they make the uppers light and breathable. Best of both worlds.

I went from not having heard of this brand to basically ONLY hearing of this brand nonstop in a matter of months.
Strong affiliate marketing game I imagine.
lot of SD Staff Influencer promoted threads
They're well known for their running shoes and compete in this space with Brooks, New Balance, Asics, Hoka. They've only been around for 125 years, that's why you probably have not heard of them.

Sure. Anything is a walking shoe if you are comfortable enough.

Ive been using the TR family for years and have used them as a daily shoe. Walking, running, trail, biking, working indoors, etc. They have been so good to me that Ive bought them year after year.
What I do like about these is the sole. Very grippy. I don't have to switch shoes based on the activity.
These dont let water in as easily as regular running shoes. Ive walked on low damp grass without getting my socks wet.

The only thing these shoes are not good at is yard work. Hiking boots are much better at this.

This would be my first TR15 and I am now rethinking if I should cancel my order based on your comments. I am looking to use as a secondary shoe for non-paved walking/light hiking. Is it that bad?

Depends where you walk. This, and most hiking shoes, have a softer outsole, which provides better grip. Softer soles also wear faster. So if you're walking on sidewalks/asphalt, this will wear out much faster than if you were on trails

I can't speak for the Excursion model, but after a fellow SD's recommendation, I picked up a pair of the Saucony Xodus (also $35). After 10 days of hiking trails in Idaho, Utah, and Nevada, I will not go back to a Moab 2 type hiking shoe. My pair also fell apart within the first year. Time will tell how long the Sauconys last.

I'm assuming these shoes, as well as the Xodus's, will give you light weight and a nice grip on non paved surfaces. Just remember that it does not provide the support of a boot, it that makes sense.

No, it is not THAT bad, just an observation that it was not as good as other versions, and the only real issue was that insole. I just had to re adjust it after (or before) most hikes. That insole issue never caused discomfort though - it was just a minor annoyance. Put it this way... Even with that issue I bought a second pair.

It should be perfect for what you are planning to use them for. At this price, it is certainly a great opportunity to try them and see what you think.

Those of you that have Saucony shoes, how do they run in size comparison to Nike or Columbia?

And when I enter the code, I get the $10 off, but it is still showing $8 shipping. I entered address and got to billing page and it still had the $8 shipping charge. Still a pretty good deal, but I am wondering if I missed a step?
