I personally wouldn't buy these knives, but if you do go for the plain steel.

If you don't mind spending more, but want an entry quality knife go for mercer or victorinox. I have mercer's bread knife and its great. It does go on sale from time to time.

I tried Google but came out more confused than I went in :-(

Got one of these as a gift, and it came VERY sharp. Not entirely sure about edge retention as we used it for our first time butchering chickens and it got passed around a bit. The ergonomics are pretty nice too. Glad that the 5" utility isn't serrated, in for one.
