Starting Jan 1, 2023, CA has a $2000 limit for exemption from sales on bullion. One gold bar is under the tax-exempt limit, and two qualify for no tax. Earlier this limit was $1500 since Jan1, 2009

Where do you liquidate this should you want to cash out? What kind of fees do you end up paying?

The closest is Pacific precious metals or APMEX.com - Best way is to hold it and then sell, so you make a couple hundred dollars on each bar

Can any gold experts help...
Is it worth it to travel to Dubai to get some gold.
I only want around 10-15k usd worth.
Half would be for me the other for a friend.
Is it even legal to buy and travel with that much gold?
Custom declaration of 10k or more

Not an expert, just thinking... Gold has been used as a commodity or currency for thousands of years across civilizations. It will always be something people want because of the perceived scarcity and difficulty in extraction. While there are genuine scientific uses for gold, progresses in materials sciences have produced better replacements or else we would be making gold in labs in large volumes. Just look what's happening with diamonds. Natural gold is actually not rare, but it has a storied history in humanity. If SHTF, survival resources are worth more than gold, which can be eaten but is not very nutritious. It's a soft material (hence the biting of gold coins back in the days) and is a good conductor but has no "real value" in terms of survival. As an investment vehicle, it's like art - almost guaranteed to appreciate due to human psychology and sentimental thinking... Unless all the dystopian realms we've imagined come true. In that case, all bets are off.

What cc gives you 4% at Costco?
None - he's executive members get 2% back on all costco purchases, and if you have the costco citi card, you get 2% back on all costco purchases...so I guess he's thinking of a combination of the two

Gold is an element. You can't make gold in a lab

Same exact bar can be bought on apmex.com. Found the link up thread. Goes for about $100 more than at Costco.
