Just leaving this comment here for the benefit of others - This is the Edge (Mediatek processor) and not the Edge + with the Snapdragon processor.

Call 833-428-1765 for Costco TMobile and you don't even have to go to the store at all. I did this deal on Sunday.

I did via phone using costco. It was easy. The rep kept forcing to add protection plan and I kept denying. One question- do I need to submit the promo to get $75 costco card? The rep told that you will get it automatically and did not even ask for costco membership. It looked fishy. Can anyone please confirm.
The $75 shop card is automatically ship to you by usps mail after 90 days. They dont need your membership #. They just need to verify your T-Mobile address is match with Costco acct after 90 days. Then it takes 2 weeks to ship out.

How often does T-Mobile have such deals when broken phones are accepted?
Not sure I need a new phone right now.

Thanks.

I also did it on the phone. Rep took costco number.

Curious how trade in works - I traded in my old Xfinity mobile or tracfone phones that are no longer used but in pristine condition. How does it make sense for TMO + Lenovo to send new devices for old

Where do you get this information? I don't know if I can find the battery for the phone. The costco rep told me I must send the battery as well. Of course I am not taking his word for it.

because they are tying you down for 2 years in order to get those bill credits for a 'free' phone
this is a good deal if you are not leaving tmobile and have a cheap rate plan such as simple choice.

if you check prices on these, they are around the $200-$300 range (maybe even lower). definitely not $500

Spending a few hundred to lock us in for 2 years does sound like a win-win. It is probably a good marketing gimmick because several people will not take the trouble of jumping through the hoops (call + trade-in + receive + activate? + resell) to get the few hundred

Do we need to activate the new phones by putting the current SIM in it or can the phones be sold new unopened

I believe you can sell it how it is.
the bad thing is that you won't be able to get it unlocked unless you pay off the whole eip

that and possible usage on it for 40 days.

I remember back when there was an iPhone trade in deal for tmobile and Best Buy was doing the deal. I traded in like 3 iPhone 12's that were still under EIP's and traded them to Best Buy to upgrade to the 13's
Didn't have an issue. all the remaining credits were given to me by tmobile despite me trading them in with eip's

If we are happy with the current ones, there appears to be no point in keeping the Motorola phones for two years just to unlock.

Selling new + locked seems to be the way to get the most $. Is that right?

yea you can sell it that way.
if you sell on Ebay, I'd just be sure to mention it's on an eip.
Don't want a buyer doing a chargeback saying 'not as described'

Good point. Is it enough to mention that the phone is locked + on EIP + cannot be unlocked + It can only work on T-Mobile

Can you think of anything the buyer could do with the phone that could affect the seller

Why not open the phone and use it on t-mobile for one day or a few minutes making a few calls and sending a few text messages, then pay off the eip and ask t-mobile to unlock it (after waiting for 40 days or ask t-mobile immediately via t-force) if you want to sell it via ebay?
It reduces the risk selling openbox unlocked device vs. selling a locked eip phone, and probably gets more profit. For the minimum, you should pay off eip if you want to sell it sealed as you will continue to receive promotion credits anyway.
It's too much risk to sell devices on eips on ebay, unless you sell locally.

probably seller wants to sell it as NEW "unopened" which would sell for more money than opened box. Also people are afraid to pay off eip early and fear of losing bill credits.

Anyways, I'm not selling mines and just keep it as a backup. too much hassle for too little return.
