I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

There are some deals, but the discount is in the form of 24-month credit. There's an option for trade-in. Deals seem to be available to existing and new Fi members.
thank you so there isn't any deal in from of 120 days or something similar? SADDD

Don't see any 120-day deal yet. Maybe once the phones have been released and not selling well there will be better deals coming along.

Bought a SIM from BestBuy and activated it last night. Fi emailed this morning saying I got the $10 credit (and $20 referral is pending).
Advertised discounts for the phones are showing up for me when I go to https://fi.google.com/account#buydevices

Haven't decided yet whether to get the Ultra or the + (the camera on the Ultra is nice but I'm not won over by the size and the stylus)
How did you activate the sim you purchased? When i try to activate it via the Fi app it takes me to plan options and it seems like they will be sending another sim. How do I get the sim I purchased to work instead of them sending me a new one? Help will be appreciated. Thanks

There's this deal directly from Samsung, but I dislike Samsung misleading ads with a quoted low price but only if you trade in an expensive phone.

There should be a checkbox to say you already have a Fi SIM. See attachment.

I'm reposting this post with additional info in Step 5 (in red) to help keep people from making the mistake of ordering the S23 too soon.
==========
There's a way for people who are not current or past Fi members to do this deal.

1. Buy a BYOD Fi SIM from your local Best Buy, or Amazon, or Fi. Costs $10 plus tax.
2. Activate the BYOD Fi SIM with a Fi-Compatible phone. When creating your Fi account, use a Fi referral code. I have a bunch.
3. The BYOD SIM needs to be activated with at least the Flexible Plan that costs $20/month for unlimited talk/text + taxes. Any Data used will cost extra (prorated at $10/GB). You'll get $10 Fi credit for the cost of the BYOD Fi SIM. Using a referral code will get you another $20 Fi credit after 30 days of service.
4. You can select a new phone number when activating the BYOD Fi SIM.
5. Wait 2-3 days until your 1st Billing Cycle has started (typically 2 days after activation). At that time, you're considered an Existing Fi Member.
EDITED: It's recommended that you wait 2-3 days after activating the BYOP SIM before placing your order for the S23. That is to make sure that Fi system FULLY recognizes that you have an active Fi line. Otherwise, although you can order the S23 with the discount, Fi might ship the S23 without assigning your current Fi phone number to the SIM. If that happens, when you activate the S23 it will show in the checklist that the phone was activated by a NEW member and your promotion discount is in jeopardy.
6. Log into your Fi account-->Shop-->Order the S23 phone, you should see/get the promotion for existing Fi members.
7. When you receive your S23 phone, the SIM should be already installed. Install the Fi app from Google Store and run it to activate the S23.
8. The Fi app should display a message saying your current Fi service is on another phone (the BYOD phone). It'll ask for permission to transfer service from the BYOD phone to the S23. Give it the OK. Your current Fi service, phone number, billing will be transferred to the S23. That will start your required 120 days of service for the S23 deal.
9. In your Fi account, click on Billing-->Fi Savings. It should display under the In Progress column a checklist of tasks like Buy an S23, Receive a promotion discount, Activate the S23, and there's a count down of how many more days you have to keep your Fi service active. The count down is updated every 24 hrs.
10. If you want to use the S23 with Fi service, fine. If not, remove the Fi SIM from the S23 and stash it away. DO NOT use the S23 Fi SIM in any other phone. You can now use the S23 phone with a physical or eSIM of another provider.
11. When your required 120 days of Fi service get close to the end, check back and I'll post info on how to verify that you've completed the promotion and cancel/pause your Fi service if you don't want to stay with Fi.
So just to confirm, I will be able to use my Tmobile sim in the phone before the 120 days are up if I follow your guide.
I was going to get a refurbished s21+ for $300, it is definitely smarter to just get a new s23 for 400.
Also can i get the referral code?

The Fi S23 comes unlocked out of the box. You can use it from Day 1 with a SIM of any compatible provider, together with the Fi SIM or in place of the Fi SIM (after activating the Fi SIM).

Thanks for the reply man.

So once I get the sim, I put it in a phone, sign up for fi.
Do I have to select the flexible plan?

Yes, you'll have to activate the BYOP Fi SIM with at least the Flexible Plan to have an active Fi line. You can choose a more expensive plan if you want. Enter the refer code when creating your Fi account.

For those like me who followed this but turned around and ordered the s23 ultra immediately without waiting 2-3 days after activating the BYOD sim , it worked out fine (thanked goodness). I just received the s23U, downloaded the google fi app onto it, it immediately asked me to transfer over the info from the previous device I used to activate the sim. I chose yes and it activated everything correctly including the new number. Popped back my old sim into the s23U and filed the new google fi sim away until I can cancel this service in 4 months.

Good to hear it turned out OK for you. But a few people in last year's S22 deal for existing members ordered the S22 too soon and had their promotion screwed up (see attachment). I didn't want people who used my advice to run into that problem and get mad at me, so I suggested that they wait 2-3 days..

I just registered with the BB sim and immediately offered the 120-day deal, so I may go ahead and order one, but I can't decide which one. Leaning toward the Plus, but the S23 at only 168g very tempting as I'm coming from a heavy iPhone11 Pro at 188g.

How long before you sign up does the "existing members only" S23 offer show up in the shop? Currently only seeing the "24 months bill credits" deal for the device.

Girlfriend signed up for the service last night via the Google Fi app. The only way to get esim was to sign up for the 7-day trial (everything else would add the physical sim to be shipped). So she signed up for the 7-day trial, got the esim service working, immediately went to the Fi website, upgraded the plan to a standard $50/month plan. But the shop still shows the non-existing offer.

This was last night (Sunday) and it's only been 20ish hours, so hoping the offer shows up in the shop tomorrow. How long did it take others who signed up for this offer to have it show up in the shop?
Been 4 days now, girlfriend still only sees the bill-credits offer. She called customer service today as well to see if she could get the offer or at least figure out why she wasn't eligible. They said they'd try to get in on her account, which sounded great, but it didn't happen because the system wouldn't allow it.
