I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

My 120-day counter has started.
I didn't have to wait for my bill to show up, but I called customer care to ensure I would get the promo if I didn't have my bill.

I'm reposting this post with additional info in Step 5 (in red) to help keep people from making the mistake of ordering the S23 too soon.
==========
There's a way for people who are not current or past Fi members to do this deal.

1. Buy a BYOD Fi SIM from your local Best Buy, or Amazon, or Fi. Costs $10 plus tax.
2. Activate the BYOD Fi SIM with a Fi-Compatible phone. When creating your Fi account, use a Fi referral code. I have a bunch.
3. The BYOD SIM needs to be activated with at least the Flexible Plan that costs $20/month for unlimited talk/text + taxes. Any Data used will cost extra (prorated at $10/GB). You'll get $10 Fi credit for the cost of the BYOD Fi SIM. Using a referral code will get you another $20 Fi credit after 30 days of service.
4. You can select a new phone number when activating the BYOD Fi SIM.
5. Wait 2-3 days until your 1st Billing Cycle has started (typically 2 days after activation). At that time, you're considered an Existing Fi Member.
EDITED: It's recommended that you wait 2-3 days after activating the BYOP SIM before placing your order for the S23. That is to make sure that Fi system FULLY recognizes that you have an active Fi line. Otherwise, although you can order the S23 with the discount, Fi might ship the S23 without assigning your current Fi phone number to the SIM. If that happens, when you activate the S23 it will show in the checklist that the phone was activated by a NEW member and your promotion discount is in jeopardy.
6. Log into your Fi account-->Shop-->Order the S23 phone, you should see/get the promotion for existing Fi members.
7. When you receive your S23 phone, the SIM should be already installed. Install the Fi app from Google Store and run it to activate the S23.
8. The Fi app should display a message saying your current Fi service is on another phone (the BYOD phone). It'll ask for permission to transfer service from the BYOD phone to the S23. Give it the OK. Your current Fi service, phone number, billing will be transferred to the S23. That will start your required 120 days of service for the S23 deal.
9. In your Fi account, click on Billing-->Fi Savings. It should display under the In Progress column a checklist of tasks like Buy an S23, Receive a promotion discount, Activate the S23, and there's a count down of how many more days you have to keep your Fi service active. The count down is updated every 24 hrs.
10. If you want to use the S23 with Fi service, fine. If not, remove the Fi SIM from the S23 and stash it away. DO NOT use the S23 Fi SIM in any other phone. You can now use the S23 phone with a physical or eSIM of another provider.
11. When your required 120 days of Fi service get close to the end, check back and I'll post info on how to verify that you've completed the promotion and cancel/pause your Fi service if you don't want to stay with Fi.
Thank you for the detailed step which was very helpful. Followed all the steps as it's and it behaved as expected till step8. But still not seeing the 120 days counter in the saving section of my account ebven after few hours. Though my new device is showing in the device section of my plan. Wondering if it takes a day or night to reflect in the saving. It's still showing to activate the device within 49 days.

In Step 8, if the Fi app requested to transfer service to the S23 and did it after you gave permission, then you're in good shape. The countdown and checklist will be updated ABOUT 24 HRS after activation of the S23 SIM. Just sleep on it.

Can you port in # or is it required a new line?.

(not a member yet) can you share a code.
When activating the BYOP Fi SIM, you can choose a new phone number or port-in a number. Then when you've bought and activated the S23, the phone number from the BYOP SIM is transferred to the S23. No change of phone number at that time and until the promotion is completed after 120 days of service.

That's correct. You WANT to see that warning which means the SIM in the S23 was pre-assigned with your active Fi number and the activation is by an existing member on an existing line.

If you order the S23 before Fi system FULLY recognizes that you have an active line (Fi system is kind of disjointed) then the SIM in the S23 could be shipped unassigned. Then when you activate the S23 SIM the Fi app will ask if you want a new number or port in a number. If you proceed, then the Checklist will show the yellow exclamation with the phrase "A new member activated the device" and your promotion discount is disqualified. See attachments.
I messed up and bought the phone for my father on my Google account. Will there be any issue if I activate the phone on my account, wait for the timer to start, then factory reset the phone and give it to him? Will the phone not being signed into my Google account cause any issues? I'll be stashing the SIM card away in a drawer until the promo ends.

What you want to do is fine. Do these things:
1. On the S23, log into your Google account. Then download the Fi app, log into it with your Google account and activate the S23 (with a transfer from your current Fi line).
2. After countdown has started, uninstall the Fi app (so it won't nag when the Fi SIM is no longer in the S23). Remove the Fi SIM and stash it away.
3. Reset the S23 then give it to your father. He can log into his Google account on it if he has a Google account.

I put it in my phone and got a notification from the Fi app that I need to activate it, so I did. I may have missed the "I have a SIM" option, but I went through the process twice (not activating fully the first time) to see if there was a way to not have them send me another SIM. I did it on the phone.
I couldn't find an option either. I just ended up going through with it like you did, and I had no issues.

Even if u get an additional sim shipped it should not matter as it is free of cost . You never know if u would need it in the future .. So it's good

Well crap, I'm not seeing the "120d counter", I'm seeing "billing cycle ends in 29 days". Maybe I jumped the gun by ordering before the bill came. Alas, I may have to return this and order another one with the same deal I see in the Store.

Thanks, I'll try those steps.

Based on the comments on this topic I understand that I can use the phone on any other SIM card as the phone comes unlocked, just that I have to ensure that the google fi SIM card is not used on any other phone.
But at the end of 120 days counter, do I have to put the FI SIM card back into the s23 phone for anything? or I can just discontinue my service and discard the FI SIM card?
Can some one confirm..
