I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

The Fi S23 models (S23, S23+, S23U) do not have two physical SIM slots. Most Samsung phones (unlocked or carrier-specific) for the US market do not have dual physical SIM.

I think I know the answer to this question but I'll ask anyway =)

You buy the s23U and you have to activate the physical sim that ships with the phone to start the countdown clock. During the 120 days can you migrate the psim to an esim or would that be too risky to screw up deal ?

I think someone in this thread had migrated the Fi pSIM to the eSIM with Fi support's assistance/blessing. Also, remember when we were doing the Fi Pixel 7 deal and it wasn't shipped with a pSIM, so most of us activated the P7 with its eSIM and the promotion remained eligible? Maybe someone can ask Fi support if it's OK to activate the S23 with its eSIM instead of the pSIM.

Thank you again. I want to start off with using it as a pSim but may want to change to eSim during the 120 days but when and if I would do that I would check with support and get an email transcript to document it.

As I mentioned I have a Fi account with credit. It was canceled so I reactivated it and they are mailing me a pSim. Do you know if my service will start billing again automatically, or only when I activate the sim? Thinking of holding off but dont know what will happen.

What action did you take exactly to reactivate your account? I've only resumed a paused account and billing (re)started the same day. You can check Billing in your account and see what's going on.

Price match from whom? If from Fi, you can contact Fi support and ask.

I chose Flexible account and they sent me a sim still in transit, under Billing I get "No bills yet Your bills will appear here after you've activated service"

Google FI is also shipping Samsung S23 Ultra devices with E-Sim . One of my friends who got the Black S23 Ultra today had an E-SIM installed . The device was manufactured in 2023 start months similar to mine but the Lavender S23 Ultra which I own got a physical sim

There is a little variation in the user screens shown but at the end the result seems to be same. Google FI app will detect the SIM is active on another device and once we agree to transfer the SIM details the e-SIM is activated.

Now will need to wait for 24 hours till the countdown starts. I had one question what is correct process to remove the E-Sim installation completely from the phone if a guide is available based on the previous Pixel deals which apparently came with E-Sims

Data point. When S23 Ultra come, I activated the physical sim card come with the package first. Then remove the SIM Card and activate the esim via Fi App + wifi. After that, I used Physical Tmobile sime card to make it Dual Sim and set Tmobile at Primary Carrier. I also disabled Google data via FI App so that I only pay 20+ tax per month.

Everything is fine. The promotion date is counting down since day 1. I will port-out to google voice when its 121 day and show earned $600

There is something called SIM manager which can be used to remove the eSIM and then you can uninstall the FI app.

This is good to know that one can switch to eSIM from the physical without voiding the promotion.

This is what I want to do. Only thing is I want to port my number to Google Fi and wondering if that would make it a new account and ineligible for the promo

If you want to port-in your number, do it when activating the BYOP SIM or the SIM that Fi has mailed to you. At that time, you have a choice of getting a new number or porting in a number.
There was a post recently from someone who ported in a number after the countdown has already started, but that was done with assistance from FI Support.

I'm not sure if Fi is now shipping S23 models without a pSIM or they simply missed it with your friend's phone. (That happened with some S22 phones).

Thinking more about it, it could be that when Fi ships a phone to an existing member, they assign the current Fi number TO THE IMEI instead of the pSIM as I previously thought. When that phone is activated, it'll use the pSIM if installed, else it will use the eSIM. Back when Fi shipped the Pixel 7 without a pSIM, most of us activated it with the eSIM, but some people went out and bought a BYOP SIM to activate with their Pixel 7. The promotion worked either way.

Like another member said, you can use the phone's SIM Manager function to remove the eSIM, or reset the phone which will ask if you want to clear out the eSIM or leave it alone. I don't know what effect it has on the promotion if the phone has Fi service via eSIM and you remove the eSIM.
