I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

If you want to port-in your number, do it when activating the BYOP SIM or the SIM that Fi has mailed to you. At that time, you have a choice of getting a new number or porting in a number.
There was a post recently from someone who ported in a number after the countdown has already started, but that was done with assistance from FI Support.

Ok, I am getting a sim in the mail today to reactivate my cancelled service. I have not ordered phone yet. So theoricatlly I could port when I activate the sim I got in the mail today. Wait for the port to go through , then order the phone?

Also, do you know if there is a time limit in how long you can sit with a sim before activating it? My account appears that it wont start billing until I activate.

Wiki says wait 2 to 3 days before ordering the phone.

Yes, port-in when activating the SIM that Fi sent you. When the number has been ported in and the 1st bill generated, then order the S23. I don't know how long you can wait before activating the SIM. In theory, there's no time limit because I know some people ordered free SIMs from Fi and keep them for future use.

I have to wait for first bill to generate? I figured if I waited for the port to complete and then 48 hours I would be safe.

Its different than last time, last time I got screw up on s22 because I activated sim same day as purchase and didnt wait 24 hours. But if I activate, port, wait 2 days I should be good?. Not sure if the bill generates in that time

The bill is usually generated 2 days after activation (with the exceptions mentioned in this post https://slickdeals.net/f/16804301-google-fi-256gb-samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra-unlocked-smartphone-various-colors-600-more-w-existing-fi-account-free-s-h?p=164949788#post164949788 )

Some people in this thread had their promo screwed up because they ordered the S23 too soon after activating their BYOP SIM and Fi didn't recognize that they had an active Fi number to pre-assign it to the S23. Since Fi won't generate a bill until it has a Fi phone number to tie the bill to, waiting until the bill has been generated is the best indicator that I can think of. If someone don't want to wait for the bill to be created, it's their choice.

Log into your Fi account-->Billing. It should show the bill, might say Finalizing in the first few days but that's fine to order the S23. Fi might send you a notification to the email of the account saying that the bill is ready.

Check on Aug 27th, if you see a bill (even still Finalizing) it's OK to order.

Are you an existing Fi member? If not, you can't see the deal. Read the Wiki on how to quickly become a Fi member and do the deal.

I mean it's either this deal or pay $1200 @ Bestbuy @ Amazon @samsung etc if you need the phone right now.

How can I still get this deal to work if I'm not an existing customer.
Is there some way to become a customer and get the deal all at the same time or what is the best way to approach this?

Thank you anyone who can give advice.
