I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

Yep the very best deals are at launch. Last year I paid $1050 for a z fold 4 with watch 5 pro and buds 2 pro. I traded in an eBay 300 flip 3. So out of pocket 1350.
Yep. With the S23 launch deal, I bought a base S23 (free upgrade to 256GB) for $300. Traded in a refurb iPhone11 for $315 credit ($300 refunded to my cc). I got the i11 from Tracfone for free with rewards points, but even if I had to buy one it was only $165. I had enough Fi credit to cover the required 4 months of service. So my out-of-pocket cost was $27 in sales tax on the phone.

Has anyone tried price matching these deals with Best buy? Worth a shot?

Bestbuy won't price match because the phone is $600 with service.

I'm not an existing customer but trying the BYOD trick.

Question - I don't have a spare phone lying around...so can Fi be activated with my primary phone and then I remove the SIM immediately (so I can continue using primary phone with my main number) or does the phone have to keep the FI sim card until I get the S23 shipped and activate that?

Need Help:
1) Activated new number using 7 day trial on my S21 eSIM
2) Received the BYOD SIM and moved the new eSIM number to BYOD SIM in old Mto Z2 (service activated)
3) Bill was supposed to be generated on 2 Sep, but I am still seeing this msg: "Preview - Still Finalizing" And I don't see the S23 Ultra offer of instant discount. I still see the bill credits offers.

Any thoughts, help?

You only need to use your (Fi compatible) phone to activate the BYOP Fi SIM. After that, you can remove the Fi SIM and go back to the SIM you were using before. You won't even need to put the BYOP Fi SIM back into your current phone when activating the S23 (with its pre-installed SIM).

I don't know if the 7-day trial membership threw a monkey wrench into the deal. I've never messed with the trial membership before.

But after he activated the BYOP SIM in step 2 and a bill generated, then he should be considered an existing member like everyone else who used the BYOP SIM trick. The one thing I'm not sure on is whether or not the 7-day trial was still in effect when he activated the BYOP SIM with a tranfer from the eSIM (which has the 7-day trial). If the 7-day was still in effect, then Fi probably doesn't treat a trial customer as a paying customer so he's not eligible for the deal. I'm curious to know what the pending bill shows. Is there any due amount (like the regular one month cost - $10 Fi credit for the BYOP SIM) or zero (for being a trial customer).

If he used a 7 day trial then that is different from the directions in the wiki. Everyone that followed the directions have been successful. Maybe a call to CS will resolve it.

pending bill shows $20+$4 taxes for ~$24 ....

The ac page says "Your current cycle ends in 28 days"

Timeline:

Signed up on 25 Aug and BYOP SIM ordered
Activated eSIM on 26 Aug with 7 day
Received BYOP SIM and activated / transferred number to separate phone successfully.
Bill generation date was 2 Sep
Since then the billing msg is "preview - still finalizing"

Q) apologies for the dumb Q, but what should I tell Customer Care ...

I think you should be good once the bill finalizes.

Your timeline looks fine. For most people, once the bill has been generated (even if still finalizing), Fi has fully recognized that you have an active Fi line (phone number should be seen in the bill) and you should be offered the instant discount. I don't know why you're only seeing the 24-month credit. Are you logged into your Fi account-->Shop-->and looking at the offer for the S23 Ultra?
