I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

Your timeline looks fine. For most people, once the bill has been generated (even if still finalizing), Fi has fully recognized that you have an active Fi line (phone number should be seen in the bill) and you should be offered the instant discount. I don't know why you're only seeing the 24-month credit. Are you logged into your Fi account-->Shop-->and looking at the offer for the S23 Ultra?
Chatted with CS, they said bill is generated. I just got the notification of the final bill and still see the bill credits offer only. Will wait and see what happens in next 2-3 days ...

You didn't follow the instructions on here listed line by line. That's why you have this problem. Everyone else got the offer. You opted for the free trail, which was not listed as part of the steps. Me thinks you are outta luck.

My take is that your Fi account is screwed up somehow (probably with the 7-day trial). If you don't see the instant discount offer by now, you're likely not going to see it.

If you're half-hearted about doing the deal, then wait a few more days. If you still don't see the offer, cancel your Fi service. You'll have to pay the 1st bill in full, but they'll prorate the service days you used then issue a partial refund to your credit card after two billing cycles.

If you really want to do the deal, time is running out soon, so go buy a BYOP Fi SIM at a local Best Buy store or buy one on Amazon and have it shipped overnight if you have Prime. Cancel your current Fi service. Create a new Google account and sign up with Fi. Activate the BYOP SIM with a Fi-compatible phone, wait 2 days until the bill has been created, then order the S23. If you start the process today, you should be able to order the S23 on Sept 7th or 8th, before the deal expires.

Here's a spec comparison of those two phones: https://www.gsmarena.com/compare....one2=12024
The pros of the Ultra are: bigger screen, higher res, better main camera, slightly bigger battery. Performance wise, both phones are about the same. The cons of the Ultra are: costs $100 more, bigger (have you used/carried a phone that big), heavier (over 8 oz). Are there any features of the Ultra that you really want? If no, buy the Plus.
I know this is an old post but this is big debate for me. I prefer the Plus for the size but even though the Ultra costs $100 more , the trade in value difference between Ultra and Plus are usually $200+

Separate question:
Was the only difference between this deal and the pre=order deal the upgraded memory?

You can trade in a phone, but there's not an enhanced trade value.

I don't remember the prices of the S23+ and S23 Ultra during the pre-order deal. But for the base S23 that I bought, it was only $299 during the pre-release deal with the upgrade to 256GB ($399 with the current deal without upgrade), and the trade-in value was great ($300 for an iPhone11, now not accepted).

Yes, that's the thread for the pre-release deal. You can see in its Wiki the original trade-in values which were quite good for maybe 2 weeks before Fi reduced them significantly.

I struggled with this choice for a while. I really wanted that 10X camera, but I would never use S-Pen, I hate the curved screen with a passion, I dislike the sharp corners and the Ultra is.. just.. so.. heavy..

I spent like 30 mins in a store trying both out and I just couldn't bring myself to get the Ultra even though it was the better value. I ended up with the Plus.

Count me as someone who also messed up. I tried to the esim trial to avoid having to go into a store. It's been 3 days and still only the bill credit offer. So a warning to everyone else, DO NOT GO FOR THE ESIM TRIAL.
