I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

I did an Amazon sim yesterday and the offer was there instantly after I activated it. They give you a $10 credit for buying the sim anyway, so there's not much benefit for the free trial anyway.

But I hope you waited until bill generated before buying the phone

I did not. But the amount charged was correct, and it shows up in my Fi Savings in progress.

I hope it will go well for you. The amount charged and it showing up in your Fi Savings in progress don't mean much. What matters is when you activate the S23 SIM it is recognized as activated by an existing member. We'll find out soon when you do that.

I know this is an old post but this is big debate for me. I prefer the Plus for the size but even though the Ultra costs $100 more , the trade in value difference between Ultra and Plus are usually $200+

Separate question:
Was the only difference between this deal and the pre=order deal the upgraded memory?
Apart from the bump to storage, it came with 12 instead of 8 GB RAM which would leave more RAM for the apps as Android app/OneUI/builtin apps are bloated nowadays.

I checked the other ongoing deals on FI. The pixels deals are expiring on Oct 4th which makes sense as that's when Pixel 8s will be released. All Samsung deals are set to expire on Sept 10th so they are going to update all those deals for sure, may be change 24 months bill credits to discount at the beginning. Not sure how this one is going to change.

Why did Google send me a sim kit? I bought one from Amazon for the initial step. Does the new phone come with sim preinstalled?

The S23 phone comes with its SIM pre-installed.

Fi sent you a SIM because when you check the compatibility of your BYOP phone and it passed you didn't select "I already have a SIM". No harm though. Just don't use the free SIM they're sending you.

Bought the 512 S23 Ultra for 600 at launch. Only got charged one time for that 600+tax. in Feb. Cancelled my play just past Aug 29 a little over the 120 days. No charges at all. Even upgraded my plan to the premium plan too and no extra charges. Pretty happy with the service. Longest travel with 3 hours out of town to even bigger towns and some small town. Still had service. Only place I didn't get service was in big government buildings/court houses where some connections are weak no matter the carrier.

I'm not sure what you meant by "No charges at all". Did you have enough Fi credit to cover the required service days, or Fi didn't even create the monthly bills?

I activated device, but promotion details still shows step 3 activate device within 46 days grayed out. Any advice?

When I activated it, I think it asked if I wanted to move account from the other phone (that had the sim I bought from Amazon to become a member). I said yes and the s23 ultra appears to be active. Was that the correct way?

My brother has Fi but I'm not on their family plan. I just want the phone unlocked to use on my acct. If I buy it and activate it, not even use it but keep it active for over 120 days (cheapest plan etc) will I then be able to take it off their plan and have it free & clear unlocked for my own use?

If you activated today, it will be updated overnight. Check tomorrow morning. I activated at 3pm yesterday, by 11pm it was still showing as not yet activated. At 8AM today, it showed "activated on Sep 7" and 120 days left. Around 4pm today, it shows 119 days left.
