I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

Please educate me on group plan:
1. Does your spouse have her own Google account? I assume yes.
2. Does your spouse have her own Fi account? I assume she signed up today with the BYOP SIM.
3. When you order the phone for your spouse, how did you indicate that it was for her and not for you? Did you somehow tie it to her Fi phone number?
4. Is the order charged to your payment method or hers?
You know now that you mention it I think I might have messed up big time.

1. Yes
2. Yes, she did originally, now she's a part of mine
3. I went to my plan and under her name and phone I clicked buy new device.
4. It's mine.

Here's where I messed up. Under Promotion details it says "Current fi member activates device within 30 days of shipment". I won't qualify. I'll try and cancel now.

Hold off a minute. Don't cancel the order yet. Since you order the phone under her name and Fi number, it's logical that she (as a current member now) will have to activate the phone and it will transfer her Fi number from the BYOP phone to the S23 phone. Confirm that with Fi support.

Dang I already cancelled. I don't think it's really under her name. It's just a link that takes you to the buy phones page.

I agree, I assumed it meant that too. But the "current fi member activates device" verbiage is ambiguous. Does that mean me the person who bought the phone or anyone who is a current fi member on my plan?

That verbiage means when the phone is activated it will have a Fi phone number of an existing Fi member (hers). Fi will pre-assign the phone number of your wife's BYOP SIM to the S23. When the S23 is activated with the Fi app, the Fi app will say that the phone number is currently assigned to the BYOP SIM and asks for the OK to transfer that phone number and service to the S23.

In the case of someone who jumped the gun and ordered too early, Fi doesn't (yet) see a Fi number to assign to the S23. So when the S23 is activated, the Fi app doesn't see a pre-assigned number on the S23 and treats it as "activated by a new member".

You can ask Fi support if how your placed your order for your wife's phone was correct. If they say yes, the reorder it before the offer expires on 9/20.

Does google fi charge a restocking fee if you activated the phone but initiate a return within the 15 day return period?

Chat told me it was one promo per group.

That doesn't sound right. There are people in the pre-release S23 thread who bought 4 discounted phones for 4 members of his group. I wish someone who has experience with Fi group plan would jump in and offer some help.

Doesn't sound right to me either. I wonder if that user bought 4 phones from the account holders line or from the members. I tried to buy a phone from her line and it lets me. Contrary to what others have said in this thread. Only problem is it's offering me $500 across 24 months.

Hi I had a chat today afternoon with one of the FI executives. I am not sure but here is how the process goes as per them .

1. Add a member to your group plan . You require the gmail . Also you need to ensure that you select BYOP as the method of activation to be considered an existing member.
2. Activate the BYOP on FI network . Executive mentioned E-SIM should also work .
3. The group owner should purchase the S23 Ultra and the offer will be valid . I asked whether I can buy the S23 Ultra immediately they said yes . Though I would still recommend keeping the gap of 2 days for the systems to be synced for the new member
4. Once S23 Ultra is received the new member should logon to the FI network using his Gmail ID . The savings can be tracked using his gmail only
5. The group owner needs to continue paying the bill for the next 120 days

That's why I wish someone who uses group plan would jump in and give exact instructions. Logically, I think each group member places their own phone order because the group members could be friends or family members but don't live in the same household. So the order would be placed by the group member, using their payment method, shipped to their own address.

The fact that when you ordered from her line it offered you only the 24-month deal seems to be the sticky point that a "newly signed up member" now doesn't get the instant discount.

I'm not doubting what you posted, just wondering how it works. With step 3, how does it know whom the phone is being purchased for so that it can tie the S23 to that phone number when activated. Is that based on whose Gmail ID is used to log into the Fi app on the S23?

I looked back on the old thread and found some good information.
