Both of these sets seem INSANELY expensive and overpriced. But, the thread has that residual positive rating because it was posted by an SD Staffer and then fluffed by the rest of the crew.

I'm pretty sure these are terrible deals.

Tell me what you think of this deal and how it compares (before The Fish Market Flu)

I need an all purpose set, the amazon reviews (while good) aren't extremely detailed.

I am constantly working on my cars, equipment, etc, but need a good case that can take a bit of a beating while the tools won't rust up in a year.

This is the set I got by using Slick Deals for $59 you just gotta wait… create a tool kit alert.

Until then take a 5 gal. bucket to a pawn shop and fill it up with tools for $100.

The husky set is constantly on sale for $99ish - wouldn't this be enough to hold you over?

I'm sure the GearWrench set is probably a bit better quality than the Husky but the price for the GW seems a bit TOO inflated.

These GearWrench sets rarely get reduced and are definitely better that the sets from Kobalt, Husky and Craftsman that are sold with hundreds of minor pieces. You get more useful and pieces and longer lasting-tools that work better overall.

I have this set for the cabin and it is a good set/deal/bang for the buck.

Yeah neither of these are spectacular unless you absolutely love gearwrench. The master impact socket set is still at the high end of what many decent brands that arent super premium (tekton etc) sell for, and frankly, most folks don't need 1/4 impact sockets. The mechanics set has less fluff than some but there's still 30 screwdriver bits and I doubt the quality is double that of the competing sets that are half as much.
