I have used them both because my friend reviews tech products for a living and I go over and play with them. This is a much stronger processor. It also supports a desktop mode and the a54 does not. This has a glass build wireless charging and a lot more flagship features.

Major benefit to the a54 is that it's going to be updated for a lot longer.a54 we'll get Android 13 and 14 and 15 and this will probably just get Android 14. And it won't get security patches for as long.

Personally I would go with the Motorola but if I was recommending a phone to a casual user like my mom or my sister I might lean with the a54 just cuz it'll be secure for a longer period of time and they probably wouldn't make use of the flagship features like the desktop mode or the stylus.

The Motorola also has stylus support with an external stylus you can buy, an amazing desktop mode with a dock. Definitely a more premium piece of hardware

Yes this been going on for awhile in The Feb thread.

Was thinking of getting one but
Slow Moto Android upgrades, no dual sim, avg cam, large size stopped me.

Was going to get it for $50 with in store port in...but boost stores charge MSRP tax, activation fees, and higher plan... Similar to metro stores...so I didn't go that route.

Just a little review here. I received the phone on Monday and have been using it since. For $200 this phone is a steal. I am updating from a Oneplus 9 that I got last year on a Slickdeal from Best Buy for $150. The biggest issue I had was that it was only 128gb and the OnePlus 7 I had before was 256gb. This being 512gb takes away any space concerns which were a big problem before. The Snapdragon processor is top of the line and for me the Ready Now is a real game changer. I am able the phone on my desktop during work and now I don't need to use the phone itself at all for most things. It will also be great for using on vacation. I can just plug it into any hotel tv and have a desktop like experience or watch whatever I want from the phone. I was able to unlock it right away from Dr. Unlock on eBay who was recommended in the wiki. I am having the tracfone issue mentioned but I will order a new sim to have it transferred before the month of Boost is over. I also use Google Voice as my primary number so the actual service or phone number doesn't matter. No need to port my number when I switch services. I am no expert with cameras and i'm sure the cameras here will meet my simple needs. Overall this is a great deal to get a top of the line flagship phone at a great price.

Stupid question time....is this considered a motorola flagship? And how does it compare to Pixel 6A or Pixel 7 especially when it comes to camera?
It was in 2022 but the biggest letdown at the time was the camera because for the original price of $900 it was not as good as other flagships from Google and Samsung. To my unprofessional eye the pictures look really great but they are not as good as the pixel 7 if compared side to side. I don't think you can get a better phone for the price and probably it takes the best pictures of any $150-200 phone. I had a pixel 7 before this phone and I don't miss it.

Interesting. I have an iphone which cannot be unlocked right now due to restrictions. Traveling in 5 days so seriously considering picking this up. Not sure if I will get it in time though

If you are in California it'll be typically 6 days from when you place the order. If you are in the East Coast then perhaps even shorter

I am seeing on the forums that people are starting to receive their Android 13 updates today for this phone. The Motorola site does not list the Boost Mobile variant and indicates that if it is not listed, it will receive no more OS or security updates. Can anyone confirm that their Boost Mobile Edge + is receiving the Android 13 update as well?

Good news. If true.

When this phone came out Motorola only promised 2 major updates. Have they since changed it for this particular model?

Anyone use both of this and S23 can dish out a quick honest comparison?
S23 would be much better. That's apples to oranges.

I have Cricket Wireless which is owned by AT&T. I want to use my Cricket sim and current phone number. Does it matter if i get a new number. In other words can i buy this with a new number, never put the new sim in and just put my Cricket sim in and the phone will have my old number on it?
The OP says the following:
"In order to transfer your At&t number to Boost, you would have to give Boost your At&t phone number, account number, and pin number. If you did that, then the process of number transfer has started. If you did not give that information to Boost, it would be impossible to have your number ported.

Even if you selected keep old number during the order process and chose not to activate the sim, Boost will likely activate the sim eventually. If you selected the keep number option at ordering and have no intention of activating the sim, it might be a good idea to keep monitoring the status of the sim in case it gets activated."
If i transferred the number and they activate the sim does this mean i cannot use my Cricket sim with my original phone number?

Hey Desi,

Do you have any idea on whether Boost will ship the phone to a address other than the BIlling address?
I want the phone to be shipped to be friend but I would be paying for it(implying that the card I use for payment is linked to my address).. is that possible?
Coz, when I tried placing the order, I see that only Billing address is being asked and not the shipping address so wanted to confirm if thats even possible.

Thanks

I really, really wanted to like this phone, but I don't. Very good specs/performance for the price, pretty nice screen (and it's flat, which I strongly prefer to curved-edge screens), big storage capacity, the fingerprint sensor is fast, well-placed, and reliable, and the Moto interface is close to stock android with little bloatware.

Unfortunately, mine loses GPS signal constantly (requiring a reboot to regain it), it takes forever to switch between mobile data and wifi, and it's the first phone I've had that runs noticeably warm. I only had this for a couple weeks when I replaced it with a Oneplus 11, which is what I should have bought initially but I cheaped out. Totally different price range, so I'm not pushing the Oneplus phone, but it's superior in every way except for the curved screen (which is a matter of personal preference, and good screen protectors do exist for it), the fingerprint sensor (I hate all in-screen sensors), and it lacks wireless charging (which seems ridiculous in 2023, but the mega-uber-fast supercharging is great, 30 minutes a day and I'm good).

If you are willing to spend that much ($700-800), might as well get the S23 Ultra 256GB from Google Fi for $600 + about $100 in service charges. Much better phone in almost every way. Better cameras, wireless charging, better trade in values in the future, longer support. The current promo is for existing Fi customers. You should be able to activate Fi with a BYOD sim and then order the S23 for $600. Keep service for 120 days otherwise they will claw back the discount. The phone is unlocked an can be used on any carried from day 1. Just don't put the Fi SIM in any other phone. Fi even has a counter on their website that shows how many more days you need to keep the service active to earn the promotion.
