I have used them both because my friend reviews tech products for a living and I go over and play with them. This is a much stronger processor. It also supports a desktop mode and the a54 does not. This has a glass build wireless charging and a lot more flagship features.

Major benefit to the a54 is that it's going to be updated for a lot longer.a54 we'll get Android 13 and 14 and 15 and this will probably just get Android 14. And it won't get security patches for as long.

Personally I would go with the Motorola but if I was recommending a phone to a casual user like my mom or my sister I might lean with the a54 just cuz it'll be secure for a longer period of time and they probably wouldn't make use of the flagship features like the desktop mode or the stylus.

The Motorola also has stylus support with an external stylus you can buy, an amazing desktop mode with a dock. Definitely a more premium piece of hardware

Yes this been going on for awhile in The Feb thread.

Was thinking of getting one but
Slow Moto Android upgrades, no dual sim, avg cam, large size stopped me.

Was going to get it for $50 with in store port in...but boost stores charge MSRP tax, activation fees, and higher plan... Similar to metro stores...so I didn't go that route.

Just a little review here. I received the phone on Monday and have been using it since. For $200 this phone is a steal. I am updating from a Oneplus 9 that I got last year on a Slickdeal from Best Buy for $150. The biggest issue I had was that it was only 128gb and the OnePlus 7 I had before was 256gb. This being 512gb takes away any space concerns which were a big problem before. The Snapdragon processor is top of the line and for me the Ready Now is a real game changer. I am able the phone on my desktop during work and now I don't need to use the phone itself at all for most things. It will also be great for using on vacation. I can just plug it into any hotel tv and have a desktop like experience or watch whatever I want from the phone. I was able to unlock it right away from Dr. Unlock on eBay who was recommended in the wiki. I am having the tracfone issue mentioned but I will order a new sim to have it transferred before the month of Boost is over. I also use Google Voice as my primary number so the actual service or phone number doesn't matter. No need to port my number when I switch services. I am no expert with cameras and i'm sure the cameras here will meet my simple needs. Overall this is a great deal to get a top of the line flagship phone at a great price.

This is a very good phone for the price! Comparing with other >$700 phones is outright stupid.

Android 13 is finally rolling out to various variants in the US. This variant will receive it shortly but expect that to be the last version this will get.
Another con is being single physical sim. No clue how to unlock or turn on the esim (I think it is disabled in firmware as it lacks imei2)
So you're saying Moto's 2 OS update is pretty much a lie lol. I mean no surprise after seeing no security update of any sort since early 2023.

It is supposed to get 14 but maybe after a year. Android 13 comes with Aug 1 patch! People on XDA are posting updates and positive comments so far (Wi-Fi calling fixed, faster wireless charging, smooth etc etc)

while i am still learning the details regarding the update process

it appears the E+2022 getting A13.

however, any reports of this boost variant getting A13?

or is the update limited to the unlocked version sold directly by Moto? and/or verizon?

after all, that is what most here are concerned with

Just placed an order using PayPal and got an error message through Boost Mobile but received an email from PayPal that order went through. Haven't received an email from Boost, should I assume order went through?
Same thing happened to me but I never got a confirmation from Boost, yet PayPal showed the charge. I called boost and they said to handle it with PayPal.

A couple of years ago, I bought a laptop from Lenovo and paid with Paypal. Decided to return the laptop. They received the laptop and processed the refund, but I never received it in my PalPal account even after a month. I had to call a dozen times and they kept bounding me around different departments and telling me that it's a PayPal issue. In the end had to file a dispute with PayPal to get my refund another month later. Took over 60 days to get my money back. Learned my lesson to avoid paying with Paypal whenever possible as some merchants will screw up refunds if you ever need to return the item.

Don't understand why you guys worrying that the boost version won't get the same updates as unlocked version.

Have you seen any previous boost version Motorola phones not getting the same updates as the unlocked us retail version?
The answer is no asfar as I know.
Then why worry?

Just check the lolinet motorola firmware website for any recent us versions of Motorola phones, and you will see carrier versions get the same number of updates, at least for OS updates, as retus version.

To be honest, I have only seen Samsung/LG not providing updates for carrier versions but updating unlocked versions.

All variants get updated from Motorola. Infact, moto has streamlined the firmware where all variants get the same firmware but apps are disabled as per the carrier (you can find all Verizon apps disabled on TmObile variant and vice Versa etc)
There has never been a case where one carrier variant received the update but other hasn't but ofc expect some delays among various variants. The roll out has started and it should appear in the next few days (check hiphi on lolinet)

Actually Motorola hasn't streamlined the firmwares for different carriers' variants.

Different carrier variants still have different firmwares and different boot animations, just that Motorola put some (but not all) of the big three us carriers' configuration files/apps inside every us carriers' variant so that the phone may work better on other carriers after unlock.

For specific carrier variants, you get more carrier bloadwares, beyond those same carrier configuration files/apps, from the specific carrier.

That's why the boost version will still have boost mobile boot animation and bloatwares even if you put another carrier's sim card inside.
For example, the dedicated Verizon variant has much more verizon blooatwares/apps than those verizon apps/configuration files you can find/disable on the T-Mobile variant.
If the firmware is streamlined, it will show the boot animation for the carrier of the sim card inside.

Actually, Motorola phones for different carriers even have different model numbers.

this is a little tempting. swappa shows my oldass 8t still fetches 200+ somehow (granted count on 150 after fees/shipping). so it could be a near free upgrade.

only thing that bothers me a little is downgrading from 12gb ram in my 8t to 8gb here.

phones are so boring now lol. using phone size compare the edge plus 2023 is a little bigger than my 8t, which i like. when you pick up a s23 ultra what strikes you is the gigantic size. hopefully this can replicate that.

Will WiFi calling work with other carriers on this phone? Motorola makes different models for different carriers, and while usually everything works (Talk/Text/Data), WiFi calling is a hit or miss working on other carriers. Like the Stylus (2021 I think?) WiFi calling would only work on the networks the phone was made for. (i.e. Phone was made for Mint, and WiFi calling only works on t-mobile network, another model made for Cricket, and WiFi calling only worked on AT&T networks, etc)
