I have used them both because my friend reviews tech products for a living and I go over and play with them. This is a much stronger processor. It also supports a desktop mode and the a54 does not. This has a glass build wireless charging and a lot more flagship features.

Major benefit to the a54 is that it's going to be updated for a lot longer.a54 we'll get Android 13 and 14 and 15 and this will probably just get Android 14. And it won't get security patches for as long.

Personally I would go with the Motorola but if I was recommending a phone to a casual user like my mom or my sister I might lean with the a54 just cuz it'll be secure for a longer period of time and they probably wouldn't make use of the flagship features like the desktop mode or the stylus.

The Motorola also has stylus support with an external stylus you can buy, an amazing desktop mode with a dock. Definitely a more premium piece of hardware

Yes this been going on for awhile in The Feb thread.

Was thinking of getting one but
Slow Moto Android upgrades, no dual sim, avg cam, large size stopped me.

Was going to get it for $50 with in store port in...but boost stores charge MSRP tax, activation fees, and higher plan... Similar to metro stores...so I didn't go that route.

Just a little review here. I received the phone on Monday and have been using it since. For $200 this phone is a steal. I am updating from a Oneplus 9 that I got last year on a Slickdeal from Best Buy for $150. The biggest issue I had was that it was only 128gb and the OnePlus 7 I had before was 256gb. This being 512gb takes away any space concerns which were a big problem before. The Snapdragon processor is top of the line and for me the Ready Now is a real game changer. I am able the phone on my desktop during work and now I don't need to use the phone itself at all for most things. It will also be great for using on vacation. I can just plug it into any hotel tv and have a desktop like experience or watch whatever I want from the phone. I was able to unlock it right away from Dr. Unlock on eBay who was recommended in the wiki. I am having the tracfone issue mentioned but I will order a new sim to have it transferred before the month of Boost is over. I also use Google Voice as my primary number so the actual service or phone number doesn't matter. No need to port my number when I switch services. I am no expert with cameras and i'm sure the cameras here will meet my simple needs. Overall this is a great deal to get a top of the line flagship phone at a great price.

Does this have always on display? My g stylus has peek display only, which means the display is turned of all the time, unless you wake it up, and only then it shows notifications.
But I want the display to be always on, so interested if this one has that feature
A quick google search:

"Peek Display is Motorola's answer to the Always On display feature found on most Android phones with an AMOLED screen. Except, it is not quite the same since it does not actually stay on all the time and is only there to show you notifications, time and date, and other information at a glance. This way, it is more battery efficient than your typical Always On display.

With Peek Display on, you will see a minimalistic screen showing you the time and date, notification icons, and the fingerprint unlock icon. Touching a notification will show you a preview of it and dragging that notification down to the fingerprint icon will open the respective app. Of course, it will have to be the finger that is registered with your phone.

You can customize it by going into Settings > Display > Advanced > Peek display. This section will let you decide how the Peek display should work. You can tap the screen to wake it up or simply approach it, though the latter option does not work as well. You can also block certain apps or choose the detail to show on this screen for privacy."

With other google searches, there might be a 3rd party app for AOD, but at the price of battery drainage.

This phone is 2cm taller than my Pixel3. I'm curious. If you are male, how do you carry the latest large phones?

My stylus 5g has lcd display and this one has oled, that is why i thought it would be logical to have always on display built in.

Pants for men can fit any phone. Never had issues with my S22U, moto edge, etc. I only wear 31, which is a small size.

I've manually looked for a a system updated, and it tells me I have the latest version.

I believe Boost is in charge of the security updates. The same goes for Metro with its Motorola phones. They tend to come out a little later than say the factory unlocked phones but pretty soon after. Right now, my Metro Motorola G Stylus 5G 2022 is on July 1, 2023 security patch. Today is August. Not too late. To be honest, I really don't care about monthly updates vs bimonthly updates as long as I don't get viruses. I haven't with any of my Motorola phones. Knock on wood.

In the past, I remember some of my locked att motorola phones needed an active carrier sim to apply a carrier security update. I don't think they do that anymore especially once the phone gets unlocked.

Got phone today, unlocked it and works flawlessly with T-Mobile
Quick question, can you tell me if you have MM Wave available in the band selection menu?

*#*#4636#*#*

Let me know what bands are available and if 257 258 259 260 and 261 are available

What sucks is that the information on boost website says it has MM Wave available 5G with the little three next to it, But from what I understand it doesn't.

It may be proportion to what SIM you had in the device and the provisioning it does when the sim is inserted.

I got a new sim card from total by Verizon, but they said that the IMEI of the Moto phone is not compatible on the network, so they won't activate the new sim card. I even entered the IMEI on their online checker tool and same error. Not sure what to do anymore Frown
Give them the IMEI of an iPhone.

If you need help finding one go ahead and Google search,"iPhone 13 swappa IMEI"

You're welcome

Just make sure you use an IMEI that's not blacklisted, you're just trying to get them to activate the SIM, you can take the same and put it in any device, that's the benefit of GSM service. Obviously as long as the device is a US device and has it correct bands for example a Chinese phone might not work well. But you could still try.

Anyways, like I said, give them a IMEI you find from an iPhone, have them activate it, and then just pop it into your phone after they claim it's activated and you should receive service right away.

This is what most people do with visible, a lot of times even Verizon phones will say they're not compatible with visible but they clearly are, so what you do is just give them an IMEI of an iPhone and you're good to go, then you can just take your sim and put it in any device that you would like

So some on here mentioned that this phone supports 5G on at&t...it may, but on Cricket it does not. Just FYI
Here's something that might work for you I noticed that most Motorola phones after certain update lost 5G capability on a lot of prepaid mVNOs, there's posts all over about it on the Motorola forums or Lenovo whatever You can Google about it Lost 5G capability with update Motorola or something similar.

Anyways, a solution which may or may not work for you,

Is to do this, *#*#4636#*#*

It should pull up phone information there should be a pull-down box somewhere in there that has a radio selection, it should start with LTE, and then have other things behind it , for example LTE/WCDMA/GSM anyways, hit the little arrow to pull down the selection box and select the same radio as the one that's there automatically except pick the one with NR in front of it, for example
NR/LTE/WCDMA/GSM

After doing this you should get 5G immediately, It probably won't survive a reboot just so you know or a SIM insertion etc let us know if you need any help, if you do need help, you can Google that 4636 code with perhaps something like 4636 code phone info radio selection or similar.

Good luck!

Phone this information it's a little bit more clear on what to do Good luck

I got it at best but but I got I working the 5G using these steps I made, I even shared it to the public.

Step 1: Type *#*#4636#*#* in your blue call app on your device like if your going to call someone.

Step 2: Press on "Phone Information"

Step 3: Scroll down and look for this command,
NR/LTE/CDMA/GSM
click it then go back

Step 4: Click on the top right 3 dots on the device and select, "Select Radio Band".

Step 5: Select Automatic after that

Step 6: Then go back and scroll down and press on "Run ping test"

You should be able to see 5G on your phone in seconds after you have followed these steps.

Just to mention. When these phones came out, reviewers mentioned ad nauseum that moto was going for updating individual apps thru play store vs large system updates. Not sure if its true but I've been told they update the camera on occasion and other things.

I already checked that and the drop down list is greyed out and won't let me change it. It does show that NR is available or enabled somewhere in there (not using the phone atm) but also shows "RESTRICTED"

Full 5G on Mint Mobile once unlocked. It says on carrier compatibility that it is only 4G with mint, but it is 5G.

Can you please tell me if I understand the trick correctly?
Mom - TF VZW sim
Moto Edge+ - shows as incompatible for TF VZW
Contact CS support to activate a new TF VZW sim + give them imei of old+clean iPhone VZW imei
Put new TF VZW sim iin Moto phone
But wouldn't this count as a "Sim Swap" that another poster said NOT to do? Because TF can suspend your account?

so since it was shipped the IMEI was available in my account and went ahead an ordered the unlock code from ebay for $1.95 and received it already. Phone scheduled to arrive by the weekend.
After you placed the order, how long before they shipped and the IMEI showed in your account?
Could you PM the link to eBay's $1.95 listing.
