I have used them both because my friend reviews tech products for a living and I go over and play with them. This is a much stronger processor. It also supports a desktop mode and the a54 does not. This has a glass build wireless charging and a lot more flagship features.

Major benefit to the a54 is that it's going to be updated for a lot longer.a54 we'll get Android 13 and 14 and 15 and this will probably just get Android 14. And it won't get security patches for as long.

Personally I would go with the Motorola but if I was recommending a phone to a casual user like my mom or my sister I might lean with the a54 just cuz it'll be secure for a longer period of time and they probably wouldn't make use of the flagship features like the desktop mode or the stylus.

The Motorola also has stylus support with an external stylus you can buy, an amazing desktop mode with a dock. Definitely a more premium piece of hardware

Yes this been going on for awhile in The Feb thread.

Was thinking of getting one but
Slow Moto Android upgrades, no dual sim, avg cam, large size stopped me.

Was going to get it for $50 with in store port in...but boost stores charge MSRP tax, activation fees, and higher plan... Similar to metro stores...so I didn't go that route.

Just a little review here. I received the phone on Monday and have been using it since. For $200 this phone is a steal. I am updating from a Oneplus 9 that I got last year on a Slickdeal from Best Buy for $150. The biggest issue I had was that it was only 128gb and the OnePlus 7 I had before was 256gb. This being 512gb takes away any space concerns which were a big problem before. The Snapdragon processor is top of the line and for me the Ready Now is a real game changer. I am able the phone on my desktop during work and now I don't need to use the phone itself at all for most things. It will also be great for using on vacation. I can just plug it into any hotel tv and have a desktop like experience or watch whatever I want from the phone. I was able to unlock it right away from Dr. Unlock on eBay who was recommended in the wiki. I am having the tracfone issue mentioned but I will order a new sim to have it transferred before the month of Boost is over. I also use Google Voice as my primary number so the actual service or phone number doesn't matter. No need to port my number when I switch services. I am no expert with cameras and i'm sure the cameras here will meet my simple needs. Overall this is a great deal to get a top of the line flagship phone at a great price.

If I unlock the bootloader and flash retus rom, will I recieve OTA updates?
I think people have said flashing will break updates but they haven't even sent the security update since February so at this point an OTA from Boost would be more of a surprise than expectation.

Yeah, i've searched the thread, and seems like they that said OTA will stop working if flashed with locked bootloader. That is why I wanted to clarify if that is the case for the unlocked bootloader as well.

The software channel is permanently set to "dish", regardless of rom. So till someone figures out how to change that to retus, OTA will not work. It has nothing to do with locked or unlocked bootloader.

Reasonable conclusion. I'm coming to terms with practically the same. Two reasons why I am not going that route. One barely buy anything from Best buy anymore. 2. I need to use this phone on tmobile. I have no other choice.for the next 2 months until my a54 unlocks. Then plan to sell this somewhere. Hopefully value is not too low.

Lots of things I like on this phone. Favorite thing is that is a charges super fast. However these lack of updates and lack of support is really starting to bug me .

Call me insane. But I go and check for updates practically everyday. Sometimes twice a day. And that message that I get. Hooray everything looks good. Really irks me.

Why do you need the update? I've read on xda that there are more bugs than new features on android 13. So, I've decided that I would be using adnroid 12 until 14 comes out, and then I will update to that. But android 13 does not bring anything new.

After unlocking and dropping wife's sim in, she couldn't be happier. Granted she's not a power user, but she's noticed a great improvement over her 2020 edge.

Fwiw, visible claims IMEI is not compatible, but it said that with the other unlocked phones I've been using and none of them have been gimped in any way

its not that i specifically want A13 update.
i probably wouldn't even know the difference,
{in fact now using a54 as "spare phone" & E+2022 as DD.
i cant tell the difference...lol...maybe its just me}

what irks me is the Security patches.
first to admit this, i know little of this ,
but i would think those bi-monthly patches more important than A13.
this is still on Feb patch
more over , if this thing doesn't even get SP updates or A13,. then A14 is even more unlikely

finally, while i like the phone, other issues are bothersome as well
ie on tmobile, will sometime simply loose data /signal. have to restart and/ or toggle on/off airplane mode....when outside where i know Tm has good signal...

rather annoying

will use for next 2 months.
maybe things change. by then

If you are worried about security so much, you should never buy an android device for sensitive information. You should buy an iphone for that.

Or you buy a pixel phone, which has the best android security features, which are a step behind apple's though.

or i could just expect moto/boost to send bi-monthly patches as promised. that would be enough.

to be fair, i dont know who if any is slow (boost or moto)
or even if support for this boost variant was promised/expected.

my understanding is that moto did promise 2y A / 3y SP for e+2022.
and i would assume these would include boost variant as well

The bad signal I got with tmobile was the breaking point for me. The speeds were slow when the signal was there. I could pop the sim into my Pixel 6a and get 100mb consistent signal. Put the same sim in the Moto and speeds were from 10 - 80mb and would lose signal all the time.

That on top of no updates it had to go I tried Facebook Marketplace then just went BB route while the value is high to limit the loss on this device

i haven't noticed poor signal on tm. just random drop off.

fb mp has always been reasonable for me.
did u not get any hits? what were u asking? just curious.

i dont mind the bb $300.
but just wouldn't know what to do w the GC.
maybe list the gf on fb mp for ~285?
