Due to the crap politics in New York restricted to ship!!!
This is the good stuff. The gel has les risk of blowing back in your face, or contaminating the whole area when in closer quarters.
I think many self defense experts would say that spray is worse because it incapacitates the attacker and YOU as well, especially in closed spaces or windy situations (as I stated before). But rather than debate here are expert references.

Gel is generally heralded as more accurate, longer range, and safer, while pepper spray is a bit stronger and cheaper

can this be used to make hot chicken wings?

I watched Bear Grylls do it with bear spray so yeah, I guess it would work in a pinch!

Anyone have experience with these against dogs? Lots of idiots around here have no voice control, or any control of their dogs, and totally ignore leash laws. Sometimes, it's hard to tell if the owner is even around. Sad for the dogs to have to pay the price, but it's either spray or be attacked.

I walk several miles a day with dogs. Lots of loose dogs around so I have fairly regular interactions. I carry a small air horn, gel pepper spray, and a small stun gun. My experience is air horn best, then stun gun, then pepper spray. I can usually make them turn back before they get close with the air horn. The stun gun works great, not on the dog, but just activating it. Most dogs hate that zapping sound. The persistent ones get the pepper spray. Only used it twice in ten years.

Me too. It's against the law, but some ebay sellers still ship to NYC.

Great info, thanks. Starting to see the need for something while running for off-leash dogs, so may try an air horn as first defense.

I carry spray made by POM. This video and others informed my choice. If gel misses it misses completely and with small civilian size canisters you get about 2 or 3 seconds to hit thier eyes. The big benefit to spray is that it will be breathed in while gel will only effect the eyes with a direct hit. That also means wind can carry spray back to you but that's just a tradeoff you have to make.

Large LEO size sprays can be gel because they have a lot more time to spray and more practice.

Damn crazy that wild dogs are such a problem. Reminds me of those old videos of remote Russian cities where wild dog packs started attacking lone people.

Gel is better for indoors or close quarters or windy situation, spray requires less accuracy.

Thanks OP I picked up a few

This design is not practical. I had similar.
In a real situation every millisecond counts, and when it comes to action twisting knobs in particular ways to "turn off safety" is wishful thinking. In real situation you need something super quick and easy to discharge in a split second.

This one is only for you to feel "more confident" that you're safe.

Look for police type design bottles, designed for real situations

Nice video, though I didn't come to the same conclusions as you. You noted that you need to hit the eyes in 2-3 seconds but all the sprays/gels they tested provided at LEAST 10 seconds which seems like enough time to get it in someones face.

I guess my big fear is incapacitating myself along with the attacker and laying on the ground hoping I recover first!

I use sabre red for work. It takes about a second to deploy a bottle like this. If you're regularly feeling unsafe, maybe find someone to escort you home. or wherever you're coming from.
