I've ripped 100+ DVDs and Blu-Rays for my personal library as a digital backup. Sure the digital code is easier but it's certainly not the only way to get a movie on a smartphone or tablet for travel.

MakeMKV and Handbrake are all you need for software and a bit of time for it to process.

I can verify the $1 discount. If you don't care about having the retail box, there are deals to be had at Redbox. You can buy movies as low as $2. I bought a movie for $3 and I was offered $1 discount if I bought another. So I got another $3 movie with the the $1 discount it brought it down to $2. The two movies I got was everything, everywhere all at once and the 3rd fantastic beasts. This was about 3 months ago.

Agreed digital is the way to go, but for our car, dvds work much easier than trying to us the hdmi port for digital. Thanks OP. Will pick up a hard copy later today

I rented this from Redbox a couple weeks ago as it was like $1 to rent a blueray vs $20 to stream, and its a full disc with bonus content and it looked and sounded great (sometimes they just put the feature film on there). Redbox still exists and works great, but they are disappearing from my area they aren't replacing the machines.

You also need a blu-ray drive for your PC, but with it, I agree, MakeMKV and Handbrake are the way to go!
