Sadly the majority of "inflation" we've seen in the last 3 years is just corporate greed. But fr tho...bring back the $329 MIM Strats or we building a Lego Duplo wall and Mexico will pay for it. I feel old af remembering thinking that was high for a MIM at the time, as well.

Don't buy. It'll get there again. All about supply and demand, and obviously there's no demand.

Repped because this is pretty close to what they used to retail for, but Fender inflation really is rough. You can find MIA Strats on Marketplace for $900-1000 all day, most in good to great condition. At this price, I'd be far more comfortable waiting for a sale on a Squier Classic Vibe for around $350. It'll play nearly as well for half the price.

Yeah, but if you don't like the CV's heavily lacquered necks, you're giving up a lot. You'll also have to replace the pots, which isn't a big deal if you can solder (but will most likely have to be sent to a tech, for most people), unless you like hearing that scratch when you turn the knobs

Good set of CTS pots and CRL switch isn't as cheap as ya think anymore. Wiring harness alone can cost upwards of $100 bucks. If you can't do it yourself gonna cost even more. Plus you'll never get that back on a Squire.

Will note, on the writeup what it says about the frets not being terrific for the price. There isn't one guitar one the market under $1000 bucks that has every fret level, perfect ends and polished to a reflection shine. The hotel gher the price the more detailed the fretwork. If you could get a USA made or Custom Shop version quality fretwork and nut work it would be very hard to justify the huge price difference. The $750 -1200 range guitars are done well ,just not perfect. It's all guitar companies not only Fender. Heck the new PRS for $2800 was just reviewed online and had three raises frets and were polished only "OK". Thing is, unless you're able to do the work yourself, I'd strongly recommend to take in any new guitar for a proper setup, fret check to do the ends, spot level where needed and polish. As well as a properly setting up the nut. Sure it will cost a bit but end of the day one of these will stay in tune better and play at least as well as a USA version. When folks are happy how a guitar plays they play it more. Lastly , don't go to a chain or big box store that does setups. Tend to be terrible. Find a tech or luthier with a great reputation who has years or experience near you. Usually all the local pros will go there. Price will be fair and work should be excellent

Adorama had a sale two months ago for $1549. I would try to call in to reach one of their sales guys(apparently they're starting to implement the same system as Sweetwater and their 'sales engineers'). They told me it's possible for them to give a little extra discount on items just like Sweetwater. If the Cory Wong strat sale pops up again in the near future I'll probably end up buying it this time.

Say it!!! 350 for a mexi... 750 for a American made. Or a little more for an American deluxe.

Lake Placid Blue is such a gorgeous color. I bought both the strat & tele long ago when they were cheaper. Unfortunately, I had to exchange each one a few times before I got something without too many factory defects. Bent potentiometers, stripped pickup height screws, bad fret jobs, cracked neck heels, etc. Maybe I just have bad luck. I'll list the mods/upgrades I made to each one below:

Strat:

-Locking tuners
-Swapped the stamped string tree for one of the trees they used to put on the American Standards (before the American Professional line took over). Even though you don't really need the tree with the staggered locking tuners, I still think it looks nice and certainly creates less friction compared to the more rigid stamped tree
-Graph Tech Nut
-Graph Tech Saddles
-Swapped steel trem block out for brass
-Swapped the stock trem springs out for the Raw Vintage ones

*It is now much more resonant with these mods (mostly due to the better nut) and stays in tune better with heavy bends and/or trem use. The graphite saddles and brass trem block definitely smoothed out some of the spikier frequencies and make the bridge pickup a bit more pleasant to use on its own, although I still spend most of my time in the other 4 positions.

Tele:

-Locking tuners
-Same string tree swap as above
-Replaced six saddle bridge with a Wilkinson ash tray w/ brass barrel saddles

*The bridge pickup that comes in the Player series tele might be my favorite tele bridge pickup of all time. It might not do the most authentic/twangy thing that a lot of tele players look for, but man does it sound incredible in its own right. I'm thinking about trying to find a used one and putting it in my 2013 American Standard tele.

I got this exact strat guitar in the last black Friday sale ($550). The pictures don't do it justice, the color is gorgeous! Also people like to talk down the MIM, but honestly the new models are quite comparable to their professional line.
