I thought the same for YEARS. I figured if I didn't need one in the 80's with all the BMX shit we were into (except for racing), I didn't need one riding a road bike on a bike trail 80% of the time. In my late 40's my mother was still trying to guilt me into wearing one. Well, I did, just to shut her up. They aren't that bad at all, really. And, it did save me once. I hit some loose gravel on the street at a pretty high rate of speed and slid like 15 feet on the pavement after hitting my head. Thank god the curb stopped my slide. Bottom line, no cracked skull. Just a good amount of blood and scrapes. That was a fun 20 miles home afterwards.

I have this helmet. The BEST and most unique feature is the cinch mechanism. By using a roller on the top rear it's very easy to use and IMHO makes for a better fit, for my noggin at least.

Good to see the VT study was finally updated. It was missing tons of newer, good helmets for a couple years. Note that ANY helmet with a 5-star rating in their tests, which includes helmets up to a "14" score, will be very good. There are 118 helmets that meet that.
