Isn't this the typical price from this vendor for these recertified drives in this capacity? 🤔 Am I confusing this with the 18tb?

It is a good pice. Just curious if it is a new lower price than typical of late.

I look forward to these being 200$ refurbished pretty soon..

It's been hovering 220 to 234.99$ quite a lot.

With higher capacity drives I don't think it's unrealistic to hope for 200 ish price.

Are you running a data center? What would anyone do with a "bunch" of 20T drives?

When I started in computers back in the late 1970's, the data center I worked for in NJ (NJECN) provided computing services for Rutgers and some of the other state colleges. I really don't remember how much data storage we had on the floor but I can't image that it was more than 20-40GB total and that took up scads of room and required heavy air conditioning.

Imagine going back in time with a data drive like this that has orders of magnitude more storage than a whole data center, which cost many millions of $$ to purchase and maintain, in a single unit device form factor that you can hold in your hand! Wow...

Sir it's all about carrying every linux distro installation version known to mankind. That and I still haven't gotten over that boating accident where I lost all 8000 bluray movies I personally own... but I backed them up. Smilie

UHD Blurays can run as large as 100GB each per disc. That's only 200 discs/movies per pair of mirrored 20T drives.

Not to mention TV shows that in UHD can run 20-30 UHD discs per series so only 15-20 TV series per pair of 20TB drives.

And we haven't even touched porn.

Pretty sure the cell phone in my pocket is equivalent to thousands of our first Atari ST that I recall playing on growing up, granted the crash screens of today are abysmal compared to the lovely screen full of bombs and graphical anomalies that it used to portray! Moores Law is still in effect, although there's still some sense of pride and accomplishment in hauling around old school CRT monitors and tvs!

Sounds familiar. I used to do this but then I found I was spending more time archiving and backing up and looking for deals on hardware than watching the content. I also realized that after I watch a movie or show I usually have no interest in watching it again for another 5 years or more so I was just wasting hard drive space and money. But this is a good deal for those that watch enough content to make it worthwhile and do a lot of re-watching of stuff.

I never got seriously into archiving media. I can understand the desire though, even more so in this digital-streaming age. Unless it's hugely popular mainstream content, nothing is getting published to disc anymore. Streaming services regularly remove underperforming content. It's quite possible a show you enjoyed on Netflix 3 years ago is no longer available outside of piracy.

So, I will archive MST3K/Rifftrax and other niche stuff I enjoy, but yeah, it's an extreme waste to just archive as much media as you can for hoarding purposes.

I just wanted to say I dipped a toe on this a week or so ago. I bought the 18tb ultra star. Cleared it and added it to my array. They run surprisingly cool for being 7200rpm. I ordered another 2. I work for a DC and all our warranty drives that come back are always manufacturs recertified and they rarely have issues so hopefully this is the same experience. The drive were packed amazingly well btw.
