Do you have link to a brand name 2Qt ice cream maker for $40? You may find cheap brand 1.5qt for around $40-50. Even Cuisinart 1.5qt is over $60. I got one by Dani with 1.5qt capacity for around $40 around 15 years ago. The wall of the bucket is much thinner than the KitchenAid one.

I was thinking the same thing before I bought my first machine a few days ago but after I made my first batch I have no regrets and am glad I bought one the killer deal on the machine made it even better. Link:

Even if it isn't cheaper than store bought (heavy cream is expensive) the homemade ice cream tastes better and you know what you're eating. There's no preservatives/chemicals etc. It's basically just milk, cream, sugar and whatever you flavor it with. You can also adjust/tweak the recipe to exactly how you like it.
My first batch was chocolate and not strong enough for me so I increased the cocoa powder until it was much better, it tasted the way I like it, like Ben and Jerry's chocolate ice cream, dark chocolate, thick and chewy.

Just my 2 cents for someone considering buying their first ice cream machine.

My husband broke 2 before he realized that the motor has to be spinning before adding liquid ingredients to the bowl otherwise it breaks because the liquid freezes hard almost instantly
That's how my wife broke the first one. Second one just randomly broke on its own despite us using it correctly.

Ordered the shave ice attachment yesterday for $42.38 shipped including tax through one of the Cashback site with 10% Cashback. Just got the Cashback verification email for $6.45 Cashback. I have no idea how the 10% Cashback is calculated but my final out of pocket cost is less than $36.

That is a typical user error. We have used that kind of ice cream maker for over 10 years and my daughter still forgot to put the lid on and start the motor before pouring in the mix. She did not break it but was so frustrated. Then I got the Ninja Creami for her. We will not switch back to this kind of ice cream maker after the first ice cream made with Creami.

You honestly think 3D printing your own will be stronger?
Probably not, especially compared to a molded part, but I can print a new one in under an hour with my X1C. I'd rather do that than wait a week or so for a replacement part.

I love cooking, I also bake, can and pretty much anything else. I tried making ice-cream at home a few times, using this machine. It is just not worth it. Way too much work and the end result is not that great.

I can print in a variety of materials, including polycarbonate or nylon, so yeah I think I can print something as good if not better than the original part.

I don't need this but here I am. Thankfully I just looked through the reviews on the ice cream maker before ordering. The blade part is plastic, with lots of reviews showing it will not hold up well once the cream starts to solidify.
That's why you use it as a margarita maker!!!

Agree. Motor can't be designed for that kind of duty cycle.
Yep, I screwed up my my old kitchenaid using the meat grinder attachment. Got a new bowl lift model and never use attachments.

We have owned a 6 qt kitchen aid for ~20 yrs. It's a beast. We use it for ice cream, pasta rolling and cutting, and meat grinding as well as kneading lot of dough.

Motors can indeed be designed for this duty cycle and the fewer motors, the better. We did have it serviced at ~15yrs to have it cleaned, adjusted and lubed: cost around $60 bucks.

In the Cuisinart ice cream maker, the blade is plastic

If you have a capable printer, yes. There are ABS and high strength PLA filaments.
I just don't think it will actually be STRONGER, even ABS.

PLA is never going to be stronger.

I have a 500 pro, it says it doesn't work with kMS500, not sure if that's the same as mine. Anyone know if it works with the 500pro? There are quite a few neg reviews on plastic parts breaking…but for me it's worth a try at this price.

Actually it works wonderfully. I've been making the best ice cream all summer with this.

I have this bowl. What strain is being created, exactly? You run the mixer on the lowest setting. Zero worries about burning up the motor.
Yeah, you really can't run it higher than "4" with the ice cream attachment because the contents will spill out.
