1 is the highest security and 3 is basic.

In other words: if you're living in the house look elsewhere. Use it for a house you're putting on the market.

3 seems appropriate for a knob meant only to open the door, nor secure it (no locking mechanism/key)

I had one of these (as pictured) on our house when we moved in. The thumb latch broke in a few months. It felt like such a cheap design. Replaced with a Schlage and it has been working well for several years

Exactly. You don't want a locking bottom lock IMO, passage only, especially if you ever have guests. Then you've got two keys plus the possibility of people accidentally locking the bottom when they go outside with no keys. There are so many great keyless options these days for deadbolts I sometimes forget most people still carry keys.

I bought a set of defiant knobs to replace some old kwiksets in a house I bought. Would not buy again. Very cheap feeling. Metal is very thin and the deadbolt doesn't have that satisfying heavy feel I was expecting

Please do yourselves a favor and don't install these on your own home. Door lock security is efinitely something not worth saving on.

i have this same exact one . i commented in another thread awhile ago about this same one. the handle looks nice but when you put your hand on it , the latch feels very cheaply made and the latch action almost feels like a opening one of those those rusted steel gates on farms.

Okay for the price. You'd normally run a deadbolt along with these anyway. So get a better deadbolt and one of these and you'll be fine since these don't really lock anything anyway.

stupid classifications. they should not use grade or level terminology for these. when they do. rank them as they are. higher number means better. they have been using them wrong. thats why its confusing everyone. the same thing for crimes and burning degrees.

they should have labeled them as "class" instead.

Just strap a grenade on the inside when you're not in the house.
