Interesting redesign , wonder what the risk of denting the b pillar is on this one (fairly high on the older designs)

For $15, I'll give it a try.

Note: The reviews on the Amazon page are all for kayak crossbars, so no help there if you want that sort of info.

This sort of thing is generally a red flag, it means they changed the product to piggy back good reviews of something else.

I'll bite. BougeRV seems to have a bunch of stuff that's well rated and I could use a slight boost when attaching/detaching my roof cargo box or strapping my kayaks.

The door latch was never designed to support a load in the manner proposed by this product. What do you do when something bends and your door will not close properly?

You should probably have the correct information before you post random comments that are not true.

Per the Society of Automotive Engineers ("SAE") Document J839B: Passenger Car Side Door Latch System - Every vehicle door latch must be able to withstand a vertical force of 2500 pounds and a horizontal force of 2000 pounds without failure.

So yes, it can hold a person.

The door latch is one of the strongest part of the car, unless you weight as much as an elephant, you won't bend it.

Hey. Hey. Hey now. How dare you diminish that other person's opinions with facts. Just because things are standard, and quantifiable, and informed by physics, doesn't mean that the other person's lack of education is any less relevant.

Maybe their car is special. And built in 1923. And runs on assumptions.

I would suggest submitting a report for incorrect product info. This is at best a listing mistake that needs to be fixed or at worst a shady seller manipulating the system.

What's the definition of "failure"? Do we need to be worried about damage to the paint or surrounding things that weren't designed with this use in mind?

Not refuting you, just having a nerd moment.
Can you define horizontal and vertical in the design? How I'm seeing it...it's tension on the latch, but horizontal loading on the B(or C) pillar of the car. I could see if you're standing on the latch, it would likely be vertical loading, and horizontal would then be loading the latch perpendicular to the vehicle.
I'm genuinely curious, bc this device does seem to load the latch in a direction not typically seen in a nominal use case. Wonder if SAE ever covered this in an off nominal loading situation.

Neat idea, until the first time you accidentally leave it attached and try to shut your door.
